I have heard a lot about DirectX 10 and I just ordered a HP DV9500t with a 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card. Is it compatible with DirectX 10?

As others have said: yes, it supports DX10.

But something you may want to note is that it's not going to play bleeding edge games like, say, Crysis, with a lot of the settings you want, most likely. You'd be best running games like those in a DX9 mode, most likely.

Compatibility for DX10 and support for DX10 features are two different things. All cards made recently are compatible with DX10. But not all have full support for DX10 features.

All 8*** series NVIDIA cards are compatible with and fully support DX10. :)

^I doubt it will run HL2 at high settings, and DEFINITELY not BF2. But I'm going to install a stripped down version of XP running a custom shell (only 200KB) and benchmark HL2 video stress test, along with CSS.

I'll post results as soon as I get them. :)

It runs HL2 on high settings.

Heck, I even put everything at maxed settings (except changed HDR to bloom), 4 x AA and 8 x AS and still got around 10 - 12 FPS, which isn't bad with those settings.

I can tell you about the 2500t and the graphics card there. With 2GB of system memory, the actual video memory is 778MB (according to dxdiag). Also make sure to go to laptopvideo2go.com and get the 160.04 drivers (search the forums). It's the only one that allowed me to play in widescreen mode. Back to BF2 settings.

I play the game @ 1280X800 resolution at the "Low" settings with 2x AA and 2x AS. I don't know the exact fps but it is very smooth. I think if I turned off AA and AS I could bump it up to "Medium" settings. But I like the smoother lines more. With my settings, the FPS is too low at medium settings to play.

Sorry I don't have exact numbers but maybe this will get you started on the right track. Bottom line...BF2 is VERY playable on the 2500t with the 8400M GS.

so the fact that its only 64 mb doesn't cripple it and makes it comparable to the 128 mb one found in the 6500?

    awesomeeeee~

It's not blazing fast, but it'll run Half-Life 2 and Source-engine games no problem. If you turn off AA and AS (and HDR... that's a frame rate killer), you can probably expect to get around at least a constant 25-30FPS at high settings.

It's in the options menu -- they call it High-Dynamic Range.

Turn shadow detail to LOW, that's a huge performance boost right there.

The 8400 is fine for Source stuff.
