Hi,
I have my dv 6000 with XP, and the HD divided into 3 partitions. I just received the Vista upgrade CDs. If I install Vista will it overwrite my XP, or will it install along side of it like dual boot.
I do not want to lose my XP side. Thanks for you answers.

The Vista update requires you to sacrifice your XP license.

Greg is right, BUT.....
If you had both a full XP and Vista license, you can install vista on one of your other partitions and it will NOT overwrite Xp. In fact when you boot vista up it may even shuffle drive letters around so that when your in vista, the vista partition will look like C: and when you're in XP, it will look like it's in C:. I say may because I know it does that if you do Vista and XP on separate drives, but am not sure about partitions on a single drive.
Your best bet is to pickup a second drive for vista and then use the profile & settings transfer utility to copy over the stuff from XP, that is IF you've got licenses for both.
Will HP Vista update overwrite XP?
