Has anyone heard about this? I was over at another site(notebookforums) and there they were discussing it. Will the battery life improve because of the AMD processor? If so it will be an awesome laptop for a great price.
I also read they will be improving the video card :)

AMD in a desktop replacement with a good GPU seems like a no brainer to me since they use less power and run cooler, but I haven't heard anything myself.

will the battery life improve? If so, by how much?

I would suspect better battery life. Hard to say how much. Look at the zv6000 which goes 3.5 hours with the 12 cell battery. The zd8000 with the same battery goes two or less hours. Granted the screen on the zd8000 is a 17" screen which will drainer the battery more quickly, but the zv6000s battery life is almost twice as long.

wow that's awesome. I really like the screen that the zd8000 offers but I'm not even considering it now because of the poor battery life. I'm also looking at the dv4000
I hope the zd8000s battery life improves by using AMD instead of Intel. If it's true that is :p

Yes, the battery life will definiatly improve with a AMD Athlon, plus better performance as well. HP has no reason to use the crappy Pentium 4 except to maybe anger AMD. I've heard the ZD8000 typically gets only about 1 to 1:30 hours of battery life. With an AMD processor, I suspect about 1:50-2:30 hours.

Battery life will be even better on the dv4000 since it uses the Pentium M.

If you're getting a laptop right now, the dv4000 would be a nice choice. The screen is the same as on the zd8000 except it's 15.4" not 17". I assume that you will be using it to play games a bit, correct? In that case, the 128MB X700 option in the dv4000 is one of the best cards you can get in a notebook.

I think it is only a matter of time until we see a 17" AMD notebook - at this point, we have seen the last of the Pentium 4-based notebook. Pentium M is by far the better choice for a notebook.

Jepp to play games and for school. I'd like it to be somewhat mobile also so right now the zd8000 is out of the question but if they do put in an AMD processor in the zd8000 and upgrade the graphics card and the battery life improves I might consider the zd8000 for its 17 " screen. :p
I read some reviews on the Asus z71v and there were some complaints on the screen. But I have till januari to look :decision:
Have you heard about HP using AMD instead of Pentium 4 in the zd8000? I hope it's true :)

You have till January eh? I'm sure HP will introduce some new interesting notebooks or update their older ones, same goes for the other manufacturers. I say that maybe you should wait right now since you don't need a notebook right now.

yes, school starts then so I have quite some time to look... ;)
But I'm sure on one thing, I'll either be getting a laptop that has an AMD processor or one that has Intel Pentium M.
Not Pentium 4 though. I'm no expert by any means but I've read a lot of reviews the past few months and Pentium 4 processors as I understand it shouldn't be in laptops. They heat up, use a lot of power and battery life sucks in Pentium 4 laptops. It's also overpriced
Also, it has to have atleast 2 hours of battery life.... The zd8000 would be perfect for me if they'd upgrade the graphics card and switch over to AMD
    + it has a 17" screen..... :hp:
