I am looking for a new laptop that has all the bells and whistles under Windows vista but can also boot linux. I am considering a dv9500t or a dell xps. The dell XPS is so over priced and outside my budget. I like the look and feel of the dv9500t much better but according to HP it can not boot from a USB device and Linux is not supported. I know how to get around the bootable USB problem by using a boot cd. Even though HP does not "support" Linux, will it run? I would like to know if anyone out there has tried runing Linux on any of the Vista HP computers and what they had to go through to do it.

This is what I would like to buy:

    DV9500T with

    T7300

    2 GB RAM (667FSB)

    Brightview display

    511MB Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS

HP Imprint (Radiance) + Webcam + Mic

    Wireless AGN

    Bluetooth

    160 GB HD

    Lightscribe DVDRW

Yes, it will run without problems, but the drivers, I am not sure that it will be easy to find, which Linux you are planning to use?

I used ubuntu for a few days on my dv9000t, and it worked fine. Have not tried with the 9500 yet.

Only problem you're going to have is the wireless.
The Intel AGN card is not supported by linux yet (Intel has released no drivers, but they're supposed to be out sometime soon)

Supposedly you can get the wireless running using the windows driver + ndiswrapper, which I've done before with other cards and have had mixed results.
