I wanna switch from my factory hard drive to a 7200 500gb 3.0 gb/s WD hard drive. Will I notice a dramatic difference in the performance of my computer. Also, can I use recovery discs or my factory reformat dvd to make this new drive bootable?

    Thanks

well if u do get a new hd there is nothing on the hard drive to begin with, so yes u will have to reformat or format the drive in order for the hd to have an operating system. I am not sure about if upgrading the hard drive will make a difference. I have yet to experience it but from what i have read some say it does make a difference others say it doesn't.

That depends, in part, on what hard drive you have now, and on whether the SATA handlers on your motherboard can handle the 3.0 speed or are limited to the 1.5 speed - a SATA-compliant device will "downshift" to the slower speed if it detects that the motherboard cannot accept the higher speed.
