I was wondering if the same companies that make the Brightview screens also make the UltraBrightview screens, or if ordering the ultrabrightview would more or lesss guarantee a decent screen. I love the brightview as it is, so I'm not sure if it's even worth it or not, just thought I would ask.

Basically, Ultra Brightview is 2 back light lamps in one screen. If Brightview is good enough, I don't think you would need ultra.

It should guarantee you a good screen because dual lamp panels tend to be the premium offerings of most manufacturers (their cream of the crop).

I second the above... Had a dv8000t with the 1680x1050 screen, single lamped.... and I was very happy with it...

wearenotalone ........ have you actually seen the 1680X1050 on the dv9000t?

    your dv8000t..was it called 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)

    exactly that??

i'll say it for the third time....i saw the regular XGA Brightview in the stores and it was very very dim...only one lamp....i expect the 1680X1050 to be the same dimness with better resolution..

When i checked it out at circuit city there was a dv8000 next to it...it looked twenty times better.......same resolution

i dont think we can assume any more until someone actually sees it first hand...

    17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050) = Sounds right.

    firebox,

I haven't seen the 1680x1050 on the dv9000t, but it should be the same spec'd panel as the dv8000t.

All I can tell you is I was happy with mine, and over the last 6-7 months I've heard very few complaints on the HP screens.

    Maybe they've changed vendors.

they must've changed vendors....i saw three different models from three stores.......all plauged with the nastiness.......whether or not the wsxga has the same dullness is speculation...but i have a feeling that it is...i'd like someone to confirm.....

btw..how long is a lcd lamp supposed to last?

They're usually rated to last around 50,000 hours.

I had the 1680 for two days. It was too dim for me with lots of shadowing outside the direct line of sight. Made reading the smaller fonts on the 1680 screen a challenge.

    Hi Firebox,
I realise that my machine is different than the one you are asking about but I have the Brightview 15.4 inch screen and it is great. I still get compliments from people on the clarity and image quality of it. I have had this since 02/06.
Native resolution on this screen is 1280 X 800.

I have heard the HP screens are generally made by LG or some such. The dimness could also be settings though. I had a ZD8000 1680x1050 before I got it replaced with the DV9000t. The 9000 has the ultrabrightview screen. Id have to say even though the res is less it looks better than the older one.

Not really sure how to tell. I think there is a program somewhere that will do it but cant remember what the one that gave all system specs was called. As for it being LG someone mentioned it on a different forum

There is a thread on these forums which explains the monitor codes and which manufacturer they are. Someone can probably find it. You can find the code by going to device manager and under monitor, click properties and under the details tab it says DISPLAY\MANUFACTURERCODE -> this will be the actual manufacturer.

Understandably some screens are better than others. It depends on the manufacturer, and hp uses a few of them, not just lg (to my understanding).
