    Will dv1000 display higher resolution when using external monitor?

    If I sent the monitor to an external widescreen monitor, am I able to use higher resolution than 1280x768?

    Yes, if you have the intel 915 chipset, you view up to 2048x1536

    Since dv1000 uses the 855 chipset, your max external resolution should be 1600 x 1200.

    Newer models have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with the 915GM

    Lol my bad I thought HP was still using the same motherboard that they used last year. But honestly does it make any difference? I don't think it really matters if a computer can display QXGA because most monitors support UXGA at max.

    Note that the external display should be an LCD.
    Laptop video cards typically refresh at max. 60 Hz which results in flicker in a CRT.

    That's a good point, I sometimes forget people are still buying CRTs or using an older one.

    You can tell if your DV1000 is the newer model with the GMA 900 graphics if you have Altec Lansing speakers instead of Harmon Kardon.
