I was wondering if anyone knew whether the heat generated to the left of the touchpad would damage the screen when i close the laptop lid (while the laptop is on)? I keep the computer on at nights and just **** the lid. Thanks

I've seen it happen to a Dell B130... whether it was just a problem with that model or not I dunno.

I've never thought of that. How hot does it get under there sometimes? I'm guessing extreme heat can cause damage but I doubt a bit of heat will do anything. When you open the lid in the morning, do you feel one side of the screen is warmer than the other?

That heat comes from HDD, located just to the left of the touch pad behind.

my older dell almost has an imprint of the heat on the lcd because i used to keep the lid shut with the computer on, and the two edges used to get quite hot, so now the two corresponding edges of the lcd have a darkened shadow/ghost image. i thought it would probably be a model specific thing because my dad's is fine and he has the exact same model.

but i don't want to take a chance. what i do with the dv6500 is that i just keep the lid open and put the "turn off monitor" option to 1 min at night. that way i can keep the computer on and not damage the lcd because i'm still protective of the dv6500t :)
