I am no gamer by any strech of imagination. However at times I like playing racing games. This is why I am thinking of installing on of NFS underground, Carbon or pro street. I am more inclined towards Pro Street as it is the latest and best. Can somebody experienced with these games tell me if it or other games will work on my Laptop. Also would there be massive heating problems that can affect my laptop in the long run?
P.S- I just under volted my Laptop and is now showing a peak temp of 80 C under a stress test using Orthos.

By looking at your specs, you should be able to run this game fine. No need to worry about heating...unless you are going to play for hours on end; then I would suggest getting a cooler.
I don't play that game, I've played it on ps2 though. But I play a online racing game called KartRider, and my specs are similar to yours(yours are a tad better) and the game runs fine. -
Hi, Need for Speed Pro street wil work fine on your laptop but if you want AA or AF you might have to turn some settings down. And as for the heating as long as you are not playing for a very long time all at once heating should not permanatly damage your laptop. If your layin for more then 4 hours the you might want to take a short break and put your laptop on standby or somthing to cool it down a bit.
Hope this helps -
Well my max times are half an hour to a max of one hour! Thanks a lot for the replies!!

NFS:underground and Underground 2 will play on full blast no problems.
NFS: Most wanted will play great aswell, i bought it for $20 and tried it out
I havent tried Carbon or Pro Street. I have carbon on ps2 but im guessing it will run on medium settings on pc. Pro street, im not too sure the system requirements for gfx is a little high. Ask in the gaming section of this forum if pro street can run on a 8400m GS
80c is quite high for an undervolted laptop. What were your max temps before the undervolt? -
I was doing a 90 C + before the undervolting under the stress test. I undervolted after you provided me the voltages and it is now exactly 80 C. The interesting thing is that the rate of increase has substantially decreased. Earlier it was up to 60-70 withing 2-3 minutes of the stress test. This time around it took about 7-8 minutes after undervolting. What do you suggest should I undervolt it further?
-
Yeah try dropping the 11x multiplier even further. Put it down to 1.075c and run ORTHOS for about 40mins. If it gives you a BSOD put it back up to 1.087 and run the test again. Like i said not all processors have the same voltage tolerance.
Are you sure your laptop is getting good cooling?.. Make sure nothing is blocking the vents and the back is slightly raised so it can draw air. You might wanna invest on a laptop cooler -
Should I drop all by 1 step or just the max one?
-
just the max 11x multiplier for now.. this is whats used the most at heavy loads and will determine the max temps
-
OK here is what I did before my second last post. I dropped all by one multiplier and ran the test. Everything seems put but the temps peaked at 80 C again. Will be doing as you suggest.
-
Ok so I did what you asked for. Both gave BSODs. I have set it back to 1.100 volts and the temp this time around was 79 C. I ran the test for only 15 minutes.
So does this mean that this is the best under volting that I can perform on this Notebook? Also if I remember correctly you said somewhere that a max of 75 under full load is good? Mine is very close to that at a difference of just 4 C! -
Well then thats the lowest 11x will go. You can lower 9x to 1.025v and 10x 1.050v. I found that these are the lowest mine will go, if you start getting BSOD's let me know.
I only managed to reduce my max temps by about 10c from undervolting. some people managed to get up to 15c
Depending on your countrys climate you will get different max temps. -
Yeah I have already done that. Good point about temperatures of the surroundings though. India is hot and humid. It is still technically the Winter season i.e. at least the end of it and the temperature is already maxing a 32 C!!

The second of the two errors seem to be the one that I'm concerned about, the fault module name and version. This deals with the video card. But with everything that I have read, my card should be able to work fine. I have upgraded the drivers and still no luck. Any ideas how I can make it work with what I have? -
Have you updated your drivers?
Will it work or not?
