    As the title says...

I am looking at getting the asus K42JC-A1 or waiting for the envy 14. The battery life on the K42JC-A1 is best case 3-4 hrs.

    Thanks

Yea, idling with low brightness with Wifi off.

Real time usage is likely to be around 5 hours or so.

59wh, for 5 hours, is 12 watts per hour, which is about the margin for the i5 and light use.

Of course the slice battery will about double that too.

Nobody knows yet? Perhaps wait for some reviews. We just have claims from HP & speculation. It is likely Levi's estimate is correct, however.

The Envy 14 has an 8 cell Li Ion battery in contrast to the 6 cell of the K42JC-A1.

What kind of continuous run time could i expect with the envy 14 when watching a ripped DVD off the HD?

No one knows because no one has this notebook yet. Anyone can speculate but take it with a grain of salt.

If the other Envy Slice batteries are any indication, probably $125 as an add-on at time of laptop purchase.

Either way, it looks to me like the ENVY will have the best battery life in a (good) notebook that's actually released in the US. Also, it's got the best battery life in a notebook that I might actually purchase.

dm4 with similar battery and hardware lasts 5 to 6 hours on surf wifi usage. Envy should be about that 4-5 hours (radiance screen eats some extra battery...)

The Envy 14 has an 8 cell battery though, and the dm4 has a 6 cell.

Battery life on the Envy 14 should be roughly equal to that on the dm4t, as HP quotes 7 hours for both of them.

I think the battery life will probably be about 14 hours without a slice battery, 37 with it.

if not that, then about 1 1/2 without, 3 with.

OH, I've got an idea. Let's wait until someone has actually touched one.

I doubt Amazon is doing any battery tests, especially on laptops that have not even been released yet.
