We love HP but the TX2 is older technology ... I sure thought that HP would announce a next gen today ... did I just miss it?

The tx2 is already a multi-touch device, if that's what you mean. It's not exactly older technology. It's gone through a number of revisions. It only has the same exterior design and appearance, but its parts and functions have changed and improved over time, much like the rest of HP's current models.

In terms of a complete redesign, probably not any time soon, especially with the release of Windows 7. It may be another few months at the least, if ever. However, it looks like they currently have a device called the tm2 planned. My guess is that it will be like the tx2 but without a built-in optical drive. No idea when they'll officially announce or release it though.

The TX2z is simply OLD technology that HP slapped Windows 7 on - ALL of the "new" HP laptops we have purchased since Feb 2009 have HDMI which we need for business presentations ... the TX2z has "ONLY VGA"!

Even the DM3 has HDMI - the TX2z is on the way out otherwise they would have given it HDMI!

Second, it's heavily discounted on HP's website which is always a prelude to "new models".

We need "Tablet PC style convertibles" to replace older models and would hate to look to someone like ASUS, Acer and Gigabyte ... HP is ALWAYS at the cutting edge ... EXCEPT TODAY Oct 22nd ... a lackluster set of NEW Windows 7 laptops.

When will the "ultrathins" come into play?

OK ... so while surfing all of the related Win 7 announcements today I ran across this SUPERB Slashgear article and IT SAID that the Tx2z DOES HAVE HDMI.

    http://www.slashgear.com/hp-touchsmart-tx2-300-600-and-9100-get-windows-7-multitouch-1259965/

So, I went back to the HP site and it said NO ... so I called HP sales and they said that they were having problems with "some specs" and he would check. He came back online after a few minutes and said after confirming with his tech support the current TX2z DOES "NOT" Have HDMI !

When I expressed frustration that we needed HDMI ... he said "there were a new series of Win 7 TOUCH laptops COMING SOON according to some training", but he had NO RELEASE DATE and suggested that I visit the site!

FAT CHANCE ... OK, someone MUST know because he made it sound like SOON ... like BEFORE the Xmas holiday!

THANK YOU ACER ... this should give HP a swift kick in the groin as Acer is #2 ahead of Dell and gunning for HP. We owned a number of 14.1 inch 4:3 Acers back in 2001 - EXCELLENT Tablet PCs - and then "something happened" that pissed off the CEO and ZERO NEW models.

Maybe Acer and Microsoft have kissed and made up?

Spec wise = HDMI + BOTH Multitouch AND Pen

Come on HP ... are you going to take that from the #2!

Just spent some time over on the Acer thread for a newly announced Acer Aspire 1820PT (11.6 in) and I would be VERY surprised if HP didn't have some new models up their sleeve.

Will the TM2 use the newer - thinner - form factor of the dm3 - or something brand new?

No idea, no info on it has leaked except that it might use culv processors.

My friends at HP said that HP has a lot of new laptops poised to launch based on the Ballmer "new ultrathin" comments for late Nov/Dec. He had now details because VERY hush-hush.

Why on Earth wouldn't Microsoft make this all part of their Oct 22 launch - they got Dell to show off the Adamo?

It's now Nov 11th and HP looks to be clearing out inventory in the "highly mobile" category - anyone have any G2 on what's coming and when"

Intel is going to be announcing Arrandale in December (maybe) and definitely showing it off in January at CES 2010, so maybe HP is preparing some new Nehalem notebooks.

Well it's now Nov 21st and the weekend before Black Friday - I think that HP missed the window to launch a new ultrathin Windows 7 Tablet PC BEFORE the Xmas buying season ... like the new Acer 1420 and 1820 series Tablet PCs that are launching in the Far East and Europe and soon in the US ... I hope ... I am amazed!

Does anyone know anything about HP's NEW Tablet PC "ultra thin" convertibles that STILL have NOT been announced - are we looking at 2010 or is there still hope BEFORE Xmas?

The Acer 1820 series is going to seriously embarrass the aging TX2 ... and we would prefer to buy HP!
