    Hi,

I'm intending to buy a HP notebook model DV6433 which brings a Core 2 Duo T5300 processor, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HD, GMA 950 + Vista Home Premium.

Is this processor (T5300 model) powerfull enough to play 1080p movies without lags? Please don't consider the resolution screen that is smaller than the movie resolution.

if not, what's the minimum requirements to play full hd movies?

    thank you

It depends on your Graphic Card not the processor only..

What graphic card it has? Go to Device manager> Display Adapters

erm..the GMA 950 is his graphics card.

Intel says it will, but you know how marketing goes:

If you didn't purchase it yet I would upgrade to an Nvidia card. The one main thing you have to remember is that you cannot upgrade the video card in HP laptops once you purchase one. For most laptops the video card is soldered onto the motherboard so you can't replace it. There are a few laptop manufacturers out there that have a couple models that allow you to replace and upgrade the video cards, but at the moment HP doesn't offer any.

yeah go with an nVidia card
it will be much better for all multimedia related tasks than the GMA 950

you should be able to play them, but you might want to get an nvida like they said. Are you going to be playing like hddvd's or blu-rays? if so then for sure get the nvida, if just video files like mkv, or mp4 then it should..

Shared memory GPUs often choke from the memory bandwidth required to display 1080p video. You should get dedicated memory GPUs when offered regardless.

ive read that the graphics card isnt needed to play hd content because the hd content is most likely downloaded torrents etc,so youll need a good cpu and the right codecs.if u were gonna get a external bluray player then you would need a good graphics card because its hardware.i have a dv6500 hp with intergrated graphics card, duo core cpu at 1.70 each core and i can play 720p content perfectly fine while multitaskn.i havnt really tried 1080p torrents, but have tried 1080p movie trailers and they seem to play fine.i know my p4 desktop can play 720p without lag,but i cant multitask at the same time.

id suggest if ur gonna get that notebook then get the core-avc codecs and play with media player classic.ive used the cccp codecs before and i had problems with some movies, but since a couple of weeks ago i found core-avc i havnt had any problems while playn HD content

    Thank you all guys.
I will not play hd-dvds or blu-rays, just hd content like mkv, mp4, xvid etc. But i'll try to get one with nvidia card.

    thanks for helping
