I recovered from a recycle bin an old Armada 1500C laptop. It is a 400Mhz Celeron. I have updated the
HDD to 20 gig and installed an old version of MS2000 Pro I had laying around. This thing has only a CD-Rom
in it. I would like to upgrade this to a R/W-DVD if I can or at least a R/W-CD. I have recovered from the same
recycle bin, one each of R/W CD & DVD. from two IBM Thinkpads. I removed the plastice surrounding the
removeable CD & DVD players and inserted them into the CD slot in the Armada. Of coarse prior to insertion I
did check that both the Compaq & the IBM players have the same plugs. Both IBM players slip right in, nothing
needed to be forced.
Needless to say the laptop does not boot with either of the IBM drives. An error message stating that no system
drive is found comes up.
I don't know if the pinouts from drive manufacturers are standardized or not but has anyone tried to do something
similar to this and had any success?
Any tips would certainly be appreciated.
Sorry for taking so much space up.
Will this work
