    Hey all,

My new zv5000z will be delivered in a few days, and I was planning to install Win2000 Pro on it (as I have a license from my last lappy, which is now out of commission), since Win2000 seems to be more stable than XP on just about every machine I've come across. I just realized, however, that I have not seen Win2000 running on any Athlon 64 or Opteron based machines yet. So I'm curious if anyone has a laptop with an Athlon 64 (preferably on an nForce3 chipset, since that is what the zv5000z has), and is running Win2000 on it. If so, have you experienced any compatability issues, or other challenges?

    Hi Stevo,
As long as you can find the win2k drivers on the HP support page for you specific notebook you should be ok. One comment I will make however is that I've been an NT user since '94(NT4.0) and have progressed thru win2k to XP pro, and XP pro has been the most stable OS so far. Not just for my home systems and my notebook, but for a whole lab of computers(20-25) and XP is the coolest, easiest to install and support than any so far. In fact I've one PC with XP pro on it that has not been rebooted since 2/2003 and is still going strong but will be coming down soon because the CPU is becoming outdated. That's a record for me, with win2k the most I got was 3 1/2 months.

anyhow good luck and let me know if it works for you.
