The WinDvd8 that came pre-loaded on my 8710w model RM265UT with BD-RE optical drive stopped working a couple of days ago. It worked fine until it stopped working.

I did the initial setup of the 8710w on Nov 11, so the machine is less than a month old as I write this.

    1. I first tried to repair the program using the setup program, but this did not work. I got error codes.
    2. I then tried to re-install it using the HP supplied Application & Drivers DVD, but the uninstall routine did not execute properly either.
    3. I followed instructions from the Corel website to do a manual uninstall (using Windows Explorer and RegEdit to accces hidden files and registry entries), and tried to re-install from the Application & Driver DVD), but got a series of 1904 error codes. I installed the WinDvd8 update patch from the HP driver website, and it seemed to update properly. However, the program still does not run.
    4. I used Revo uninstaller in advanced mode to do a complete uninstall, and this program found a lot of leftover files, which I erased.
    5. Now, I can't even use Win Media Player to play DVD's. It tells me I don't have a working MPEG-2 decoder.

    I am screwed!

Can anybody tell me how I get my WinDvd8 working again?

Try a system restore before you did all this and prior to Windvd failing.

After doing 10 system restores and having them all fail, my WinDvd8 suddenly started working again. Go figure.
