What can be done do solve this? I already put it to never sleep in power options but i want to solve this problem.
    thank you.

For clarification. You have a PS2 Keyboard connected to your laptop? Does your laptop have a PS2 port (must be a really old laptop) or are you plugging a PS2 keyboard into a PS2>USB dongle then into the laptop?

Has the configuration you are using ever worked?

You can try this: Go into Device Manager (through Administrative Tools, or other) and look for the Keyboard Device (there should be one). Right click on the device and select properties. Select the Power Management tab and you should see a check box "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby". Check the box, click OK. You may have to re-boot your computer. Now give it a try.

    hi,
    thanks for your reply
device manager lists it as a regular ps2 keyboard(it is the embedded one), i'm not using external keyboards. The notebook model is a dv9640us.
The option you said in device manager under keyboard properties and power management is already checked.
I don't remember if with XP or Vista that happened before.
    thanks again.

OK. Check the Keyboard driver and see if it is a generic keyboard driver that Win 7 installed. If it is, try to install the HP keyboard driver with QLB for either Vista or Vista64 for whatever version of Win7 you have installed. You can find the drivers for your laptop here: HP Pavilion dv9640us Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English).

You might also try Uninstalling the Keyboard in Device Manager and let Windows re-install it. I am grasping at straws here, but these are some of the things I would try.

If that doesn't work, then wait and see if anyone else has had this problem before and can give you additional advice. I don't have any further suggestions that wouldn't include reinstalling the OS.
