Hi all,
I have an HP DV6700 Laptop, and I recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) (The full version from MSDN academic alliance, not the release candidate). A few days afterward, I had an issue where my speaker icon has a red "x" over it, and when I hover over it it says "no audio output device is installed". The funny thing is that the speakers worked after windows update installed an update, then they stopped a few days later, and I cannot for the life of me get the speakers to work again!!
I have searched the furthest corners of the internet, installed every driver I could find, and have troubleshooted in Windows 7 and tried to use windows update, all to no avail. If anyone knows why this happens or preferably how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it!

It would help if you actually told us your soundcard model.
-
We probably have the same soundcard model. See the laptop in my sig.
I have the Realtek High Definition Audio card. I am sure you already tried the Vista 64 bit driver for the Audio Card from HP's driver download site for your model but that is what I installed and my audio works as it should. Wow yeah I completely forgot to include my soundcard model! My bad
The speakers are conexant smart audio 221. I'm not sure if that is the soundcard model or just the speakers, and honestly I don't know how to find my soundcard model... I'm not super good with computers...
@deeastman
I actually have tried that exact driver and it didn't work, but thanks anyway! At least it seems like I'm on the right track if someone else did it too
Well I'll just keep chipping away at the problem. Thanks for the help so far! -
Have you tried the HP support page where the drivers are listed for your model? Like I said, try the Vista 64 driver for your model. -
The good news is that i got a modified driver for the SmartAudio 221 (Hermosa), that does the following things:
1) works fine with win7
2) has microphone boost up to 40db (now you can finally use the built-in mic of your laptop)
3) has speakers and headphones as separate devices, so you can, for example, set different bass boost levels for each
The even better news is that i have posted it here some time ago. The bad news is that i messed something up and the driver posted here is not complete, and i'm in a hurry now. I'll post the complete one tonight.
Also, please tell me you have the 64-bit version of win7, since my driver only works with that. If you don't, it would be a good reason to install it. You'll thank me later. -
@deeastman
The exact number is dv6810us. I tried the driver you linked to, and I searched the HP help site, all to no avail. (Admittedly, I could have missed something on the HP site)

That would be really awesome! And yes, I run 64 bit Windows 7 Professional! -

Okay got it done. Here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5232721#post5232721
Have fun.And no, it doesn't work with x86... At least, it's not tested. If someone would help test that i'd be grateful.

@deeaston
Thanks for that I did miss that one! I installed it, and had no problems, but it didn't work, unfortunatelyAt least it installed unlike the last 5 or 6 million times I tried to install other drivers
@ Th3 uN1Qu3
You, sir, are the wind beneath my wings. I did some digging in device manager, and found that the sound issue was correlated with an issue I had with a coprocessor (no idea what that is), so I found drivers for that, then I installed your driver which I am excited to say worked perfectly!! Thank you so much!!! Now to listen to some music -
I'm glad it worked. Enjoy your music!
Btw, if i remember right, the coprocessor had something to do with the chipset drivers.
