Just got done installing Windows 7 Professional (x64) on my three year old dv2000z.

    Specs
    CPU:AMD Turion x2 1.8 GHz
    RAM: 2GB DDR2
    HD: Crucial 128 GB SSD

Windows 7 Performance Index is as follows.
    CPU: 4.6
    RAM: 5.1
    Graphics (Desktop): 3.3
    Graphics (3D): 3.0
    Primary Hard Disk: 7.0

Needless to say. The combination of Win7 and the SSD have brought it back to life. Even if it dies, I'll still have an SSD to put in my next laptop. :)

Haha Jentage already thinking about upgrading that OS :D

Jentage did you by any chance go through the process of getting your "Free" Windows 7 upgrade? You have to do something through their site. I've read online that shipping is like 50 dollars for the disc...

To boost your graphics score download and install Windows DirectX runtime updater.

I tried installing from a USB Flash drive, but the drive I used was toast. I think it's one I might have accidentally washed.

Installing from a DVD and applying updates via wireless took 15-20 minutes.

Haven't done any gaming, but everything is very snappy.

I am a Microsoft Partner and got my copy via the partner program.

I'm pretty sure that the DirectX runtime included with Windows 7 RTM is more up to date than the March 09 download. Not that it matters because this is a commuting/presentation machine, so the graphics don't need to be smoking fast.

That said, I probably should take it apart and refresh interface between the heatsink and CPU/GPU. The GeForce 6150 will still make the same amount of heat, but at least it will get pulled away more efficiently.
