Windows 7 a lot slower than vista

I did a clean install of windows 7 earlier today and it's very slow even after updating and installing drivers. After using vista for quite a while, I'm not very impressed. Vista was consistently very fast in everything I did but now windows 7 makes things slower with prettier interfaces.

Another thing to note is that when I installed the os, I made a second partition on my harddrive and when I did, windows created another "possibly necessary" necessary partition for system files. Now I have 3 partitions where the last one is using 100 mb of unallocated space and I cannot do anything to it.

I have a DV6-1253CA with duo core 2.0 GHz processor, 4 gb of ram, ati radeon video cared with 512 mb of discrete memory, and I'm using the 64 bit version of windows 7.

What twisted bizarro universe did this happen in? I've never seen Windows 7 be slower than Vista, nor have I seen Vista ever be fast.

The partition that gets created IS necessary: some of the system and protected files go there. You don't access it in any way but the system needs it.

Opening and using applications isn't that slow but using vista was faster. Also bootimes slowed down a lot. Will they eventually get faster in the next updates?

TBH...it is very unlikely that W7 is slower than Vista...Have tried this on more than 7 machines already...ranging from old desktops/laptops, to obviously more recent ones...with the same results, pretty neat performance overall.

Something is not right...probably in the drivers u are using...Im surprised that your DV6 is having trouble, my DV7 runs as if it was brand new!

So Vista was faster opening and using applications? I have trouble buying that unless you're using different equipment somehow. I've had Windows 7 running on a Pentium D and outperforming Vista running on a late model Core2Duo

I'm not crazy at all. With vista, I would consistently boot up in at least 30 seconds and I could open firefox and most applications very quickly. Now it takes up to 60 seconds to boot and I at least 20 seconds to load up applications. Sure it gets faster as I use it more often throughout the session, but it's subpar compared to my old performance.

On my 1330...I had to tweak the hell out of it to get it to completely start at the 25 second mark.

Win7 out of the box without tweaks does that now...I dont even bother tweaking anymore...

    Would a hijackthislog work?

I would like to not have to reinstall because I spent a whole evening installing, loading drivers, finding all of my software applications and even worse, tweaking the settings to my OCD-like picky needs.

Note: IE seems to be the biggest offender in speed. I use ff but sometimes I use IE for somethings and it's very slow compared to it.

Edit: Okay now everything I download or install hangs at 100%. Especially trying to install flash.

No, no, no! Vista takes an hour to boot up. I timed it one day. :D

Seriously, if W7 is truly slower, then there's something wrong. As someone already said, you most likely have a driver issue.

I also had some weird stuff happening before I connected to the HP website and uploaded the latest drivers. Getting connected to that website though, took a couple of tries.

On a side note, I've actually experienced a problem with a friend's computer that took an hour and 40 minutes to boot once lol.

@OP: I'm not sure about the boot time, but a new installation will not have superfetch working to its full capabilities (i.e. it doesn't know what programs you often run so it won't know which programs to load into memory as soon as Windows starts). That might explain why it takes longer to open Firefox in Win7 than your Vista installation. Windows 7 feels very snappy and I've been using it since RC1.
