    Is this a good idea? Will it improve gaming and general speed? Is it compatible?

    Yes it is a good idea if you can afford it. :) It is fully compatible and works great. It feels a bit faster for me on Windows 7 but that could be the placebo effect. It wont drastically improve performace but it is a nice upgrade IMO.
