Are there Windows 7 drivers available yet for the dv4-1280us? I really want to load this on my laptop after trying it on my netbook. I wasn't sure would all would not work with the default drivers provided.

I have the DV7 and everything is working after I did the upgrade. The only issue i see now is the touch volume on/off is allways red but the volume up and down touch works fine. The camera works fine, the sound works fine and I get the proper resolution.

I had the same problem as you with the laptop in my sig. but the touch volume would always stay 'blue' even though it worked as it should.

I installed the Vista 64bit audio drivers from HP's site (I found out that the audio driver itself is what causes this problem) and it still didn't work.

What did work and corrected all audio / switch issues was to install the 'optional' audio update for my 'realtek' audio chipset that Windows 7 update suggested.

All is well now in W7 land.

I had the DV7 mute touch issue as well, but found reinstalling the quicktouch Sw corrected it for me.

You didn't indicate what System Type you installed 32bit or 64bit OS?

Most likely the Vista (32 or 64 bit) drivers will work for Windows 7. Just search the driver download section on the HP web site for your notebook model. Worked for me.

Windows 7 64bit. I dont see any windows 7 drivers for this laptop on the HP website. If they had them I would be in good shape. I have 3 base System Device drivers needed and then 1 unknown device. Thx for any help! I have to get this loaded up for school.

It looks like loading Card reader fixed the 3 system device drivers. I still have one unknown device and I think this is that HD protection driver which I cant seem to find on HP's website now but I know it has one for this.

Please read the abbreviated posting I collected for protectsmart:

I finally got it to work, after almost giving up. Even the document published by HP "Installing Windows 7 Beta on HP Business Notebooks" says "3D DriveGuard does not function - a new version of HP 3D DriveGuard will be available at Windows 7 Launch". (But I couldn't wait for 6 months)

There are two components - the Driver, and the Application. You need to install the application from an older softpaq, and the driver from a newer softpaq.

1- Uninstall HP 3D DriveGuard from your system

2- Go to device manager and open System Devices -> HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor. Uninstall the driver and delete driver files.

3- Download SP42565 and install from the HP website.

4- Once I did this I had the latest driver (version 3.10.2.1) which works on Windows 7 64-bit. The problem is this version came with a ProtectSmart application which doesn't run. You can try it by running C:\Windows\System32\accelerometerST.exe because it won't install in the start menu.

5- If it works and you get the protectsmart settings, you should be able to enable the drive.

6- If it doesn't work, you need to start by installing SP39123. This is an older version for Windows XP, but we only need the application from it. You need to repeat step 2 first to uninstall the newer driver.

7- Once SP39123 is installed and accelerometerST.exe runs properly (but reports drive not supported) go to Control Panel, and update the driver HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor. Choose to manually update the driver, from the location c:\swsetup\SP42564\ which you had previouslly extracted in step 3.

8- Once I did that it worked for me. Remember that you have to restart your PC everytime you remove or install something above.

To recap, you just need two things:

    - accelerometerST.exe (ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection) v. 3.10 A7 from SP39123
    - latest driver for HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor v. 3.10.2.1 07-Aug-08 from SP42565

The problem is when you install SP39123 it installs the correct application but the wrong driver, and when you install SP42565 it installs the correct driver, but the wrong application. To resolve this, the steps above install the correct application and the wrong driver, and then manually update the driver.

    Good luck!

Notes: There is a newer version of the actual driver (with no software) above. Once you have installed the software (first link), you will need to manually install update the driver through device manager using the latest driver above.

Didn't you mean 'Device Manager' instead of 'Control Panel'

Most likely there won't be any Windows 7 drivers until after the official release date of W7 (Oct 22). In the meantime try the Vista 64 drivers. They will work for most things, not necessarily all.

Yeah, everythign is running great on it now.. the only Vista driver I really had to load was the card reader driver. Everything else I got from the Intel site or Windows 7 already loaded. Just the 3d drive guard is an issue. I may wait for the driver to be released. I will say this. I could crash Vista on this thing just about whenever i wanted. Try to adjust the sound or launch explorer to early and crash crash crash. I thought it was the notebook so I returned for a 2nd one and same problem. Windows 7 is SOLID. I couldnt make it miss a beat. Thx for all the help!

Likely, however this was hastily copied from another BB thread, not typed myself, should have edited it, my bad.

Edit: Protectsmart / 3D lifeguard does work once you iron out the driver/Sw issue as illustrated.
