    so i recently got an HP laptop with Windows 8

    where is the product code sticker?

    what if my hardrive crashes and have to install windows 8 again on a new hardrive?

    built into the bios of your computer using something called a SLIC table. we had these with windows 7 as well, when you reinstall as long as it is the same licensed version ( can not use a home SLIC to load Pro ) it automatically pics it up and installs.

    it beats having a faded or ripped off sticker but you can also use applications to backup your key and activation information as well
