Does anyone else get this too?

You know how when you open up an application, like say Internet Explorer, Aero loads it and it has the zooming effect.

Well sometimes it's smooth as butter, then out of no where it'll get all choppy, this is even when the computer is idle. It really annoys the crap out of me.

Is there any way to fix/troubleshoot this besides turning Animation off? I know my Go 8400M should be able to run the Aero animation smoothly without this choppiness, thanks a lot.

Alright boys, well after fooling around with a bunch of drivers, this problem stopped once I installed 163.44.

    Thanks for the reply Ant

So no one else has any other ideas?

There has to be another factor besides which drivers you are using....

I tried upping the 2D clocks in my 8600M GT, it helped a little...

I went from 170 to 200 ... how much effect do you guys think that will have on battery life, if it were a modern overclock?

Service Pack one should be out soon - don't knock yourselves out until then... then you can go crazy if it's still bad.

you can try going to laptopvideo2go.com and installing a newer driver, and seeing how that goes. On my system 169.09 works the best.

Yeah - I went to that site and have no idea how to find my drivers ... there are just a bunch of numbers. How do I navigate that thing?

This might come up with a clue on this issue.

I oringanlly had an hp 2715dr laptop I exchaged it a few times for various reasons. All of them had the aero problem of chopiness. That laptop had the 7050 nvidia card. I then found a dell inspiron at a retail store with an intel 3100 card the areo was smooth but the games were lousy. Afterwards I customized a Dell Vostro with the 8400M card t7500 processor and I'm back to this choppyness again.

My feeling it's the NVIDIA cards. From other posts I've heard it has to do with powermizing. When you are not doing anything intensive the nvidia card clocks it's self down. I'm not an experrt in the field. But I got this Vostro for 950.00 after hondleing and I'll live with the aero problem. I'm tired of exchanging. t7500 m8400 2 gigs of ram, cam N wireless.

It's not the driver, its the power saving mode of the graphics chip. One way to tell is to grab any open window and drag it around quickly. You'll see it go choppy for a few seconds, then all of a sudden it will be smooth. That's when it kicks out of power saving mode.
