I recently dowloaded updates for my Windows and the next day, my notebook prompted me to enter a password on the start up screen. Problem is, I never set up a password before. And then there was this icon at the bottom saying that my windows XP is not genuine. I reinstalled my windows using the CD that came with my laptop and the product key from the bottom of my laptop, but it's still doing the same thing.

I was wondering if anyone encountered the same problem and how did you resolve this?

    Thanks again.

Is it possible you can call tech support? Is your warranty in?

People have had problems with WGA "detecting" that their non-pirated copy of Windows is pirated. Microsoft says WGA is in beta, which is why there are false positives. However, it forces you to install any product updates, so I don't know who that's supposed to help. Beta my ass... I don't know what you can do other than call tech support. Good luck.
