I just recieved my zd8000 and have many questions regarding the tuner and related software. So far i have not been able to use the tuner for anything productive dont even have a clue as to how i could? I hooked it up to a dvd player at home through composite cables and have no clue what to do next. I live in england at present so not sure as to how to hook it up to satelite. Beyond those problems is there software that will allow me to have the functions of media center with win xp pro. For instance tivo liek recording software and capture etc... Also what good is the supplied remote so far i think it is only useful with the adaptec tuner attached why cant i use it without the tuner.

Essentially i am thinking i want to get rid of media center nothing about it has wowed me yet and what would people recommend i use for capturing from the tuner?

    Thanks

300rwhp, I got my zd8000 with Media Center last week. I love Media Center Edition. I don't have digital cable just analog cable so I plug in the coaxial cable running from the wall into the splitter and then plug in those two coaxial cables into the tuner. Plugging in the USB cable from the tuner into the zd8000 allows me to then watch live/recorded tv on my laptop like Tivo. I also bought a long s-video cable and plugged that into my TV and the s-video output on the zd8000 so I can watch TV on the laptop or the regular TV. I don't have a satellite or cable box so I'm not sure how you would hook it up exactly. Does your satellite box have an s-video output? If so, use the HP supplied s-video cable and connect that to the TV tuner and the satellite box. S-video allows better quality picture than composite cables. My plan is to eventually run a terabyte server and rip all my DVDs on there. That way I just use the remote to access all my DVDs in Media Center on the server without loading a new DVD everytime I want to watch a movie. I know I haven't been of much help but here's an excellent site that should be able to help you with Media Center and hooking up your stuff: http://www.thegreenbutton.com/
