This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     I don't get it.. do you get a copy of Vista on CD/DVD for reinstallation by default and the $19 is for a back up, or do you have to buy it to get even one copy?

    The $19 disc is the system backup. The Vista Anytime Upgrade DVD can be used to do clean installs, but HP is no longer shipping them with every system. Some users are getting one, some not............

    Recovery disks can be ordered anytime after you buy your laptop from HP by going to their driver downloads page. The price is about $14. As for a Windows Anytime Upgrade Disk, if you don't get one with your laptop, one can be had for a shipping fee of $7 from Microsoft.
