Just wondering if I might encounter any issues running stock Windows Small Business Server 2011 (i.e. an SME bundle of Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010 and other stuff) on the DV6 with the 2Ghz i7 quad.

I do notice it has stuff like Beats Audio and I'm assuming these are just software tweaks on top of a standard chipset, not dedicated custom hardware that would cause issues.

Also, is hard disk removal easy? I plan to just whip out the stock disk on purchase and put in an alternative fresh disc to run SBS on.

Beats audio and the like is just a marketing name. It is no different than other speakers. I don't think you will have trouble and the drive is really easy to swap out. Just make sure you copy the swsetup folder from the root of the c drive since it contains drivers you will need.

Well, that's kind of the rub - the drivers are for Windows 7. I'm looking to run a vanilla Windows Server 2008 R2 in effect.

You know what, I don't think I'm going to get a reliable answer on this - only way looks like to buy it and try it, then toss it if it doesn't work and try something else.

Actually, Beats are both software and hardware enhancements...

Can you legally run an iso of the DVD legally and run it in "trial" mode? If it works, just buy it and enter the product key.

    official Microsoft trial

Trial is not the issue - yes, you can install SBS without a product key and activate it later. I just didn't want to waste time returning or trying to sell on a machine that doesn't work well with it.

Anyway, will stew on it a couple of days and make my decision. A quiet desktop is an option but acoustically I'm betting even a relatively low-end laptop like this is a much quieter prospect.
