    I just got a DV6258se delivered yesterday.

I was just wondering whether HP provides Vista CD along with the laptop? I know it's installed there and we have some Recovery Drive ( I am yet to completely figure out how to use it) but aint we supposed to get a Vista CD too with its Product Key with the Laptop.

I have a sticker on the back of the laptop stating the Product Key of Windows Vista but that's not being recognized as a Valid Key when I try to use it to "Activate Windows". Any help?

Alos, I have Microsoft 2007 (trial version) installed on my laptop but there is no Product Key availaible for that. Could anyone please provide any pointer to that?

Also as per the HP website,
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...7924&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

we have a few softwares like RealRhapsody , Sonic Digital Media Plus as part of the Product but I don't find them on my laptop.

Are these problems usual or they r specific to me?

I would appreciate ur quick help.

    Cheers!
    - Manish

This is odd because if it shipped with Vista on it you don't need to activate. In any event what is it that you are trying to do. When you order a computer from HP, Dell , IBM or whoever if it comes with an operating system installed there is no need to activate it. Maybe you got a refrub but even if you did it would still be the same. Please give more details. As for it shipping, HP usually does not ship a Disc with the operating system they want you to make recovery CDs but here is the caveat.... if you order a system that has Vista on it it should have a DVD in it that says Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade (I confirmed on microsoft's site and this should be included in all PC's that ship with a version of Vista) if you have this Disc you can boot from it to install Vista. If you did not get this disc check with HP. I had to contact Microsoft in order to get the Vista Anytime Upgrade Disc (they will charge about $10 shipping) but you should have it in there. Also if you don't have it contact Microsoft and report it. Their agreement with system makers is that if they ship with the Vista OS they have to include that Vista Anytime Upgrade Disc. This applies to the major manufactures not the mom and pop shops.

Seems to be unique to you..... As stated when you get an HP there is no way that you have to activate when you get vista preinstalled. You only need to activate if you do a re-install from the OS Disc.

I have the "Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade Disc" and I also have recovery hard drive partition...

My OS was already activated as I understand....It showed "Windows is activated".. so no problem as such....It also showed a Product ID ( I guess that is derived form Product Key)...

then beside the Product ID ( Computer-> Properties) it I have an Option to change the Product Key...

I guess we can't use the existing Product Key anymore....Could it be the reason for the error?

whatever you do don't change the product key. I actually took the product key and the vista anytime disc and installed it on my desktop. then i called in the phone number on the activation screen and it worked so i got it to run on my desktop. didn't need for the laptop since it came preinstalled and activated
