I didn't configure my order with this version of Vista and I got a ATSC-NTSC TV tuner with PVR, FM tuner, remote configured with my system... Does this matter at all? I ordered the Windows Premium 32 bit of Vista... So I'm just curious if I'm missing anything without the digital cable tuner version of vista since i have digital cable...
I called HP and was put on hold for 30 min while the girl looked for my order... And when I called back the a$$hole on the phone hung up on me after he said "call back when your order is delivered".

you got home premium right? home premium has media center in it, so you should be fine...if thats what your asking.

If you got vista home premium or vista ultimate, you'll be just fine, it has the media center options in it. In fact, even if you didnt order the tv tuner, you can get one for 50-100 bucks that just plug in USB.

You can't use digital CABLE on a laptop computer, because digital cable is encrypted and requires CableLabs Certification and a cableCARD from your cable company. Currently there are no systems that have this. ATSC is the "over the air" digital broadcasting in high definition, and that is free and not encrypted. There are still many channels on cable that are analog, and the tuner will work fine with those.

It's actually for a desktop computer... Sorry about the confusion...

Desktop or laptop, the same rules hold true. To my knowledge, there are no PCs that can access digital cable because they don't have cablecards or the certification. You might get lucky and have some unscrambled digital cable channels, but I'm not sure which tuners will be able to use that.

Update.. My digital cable works with my media center on my new HP pc

Broadcast networks (ABC/CBS/NBC/etc) tend to be unencrypted, plus a few more if you're lucky. Comcast is that way where I live. I use an OnAir GT USB HDTV tuner.

you can now get a dell XPS with CableCard
