My friend just recently bought a HP Pavilion dv9605ea for around £450, well actually he bought two on the same day since he actually liked it! However there was a snag that it came with Windows Vista which he doesn't want. I can't blame him since I used Windows Vista myself and ran into compatibility issues and productivity suffered as a result.
The HP Pavilion dv9605 ea came with the following specifications:
- AMD Athlon 64×2 Processor TK55 (1.80 GHz)
- Windows Vista Home Premium
- 120 GB Hard Drive
- 2 GB Memory
- DVD Rewriter MultiDrive
- HP Intergrated Webcam
- Bluetooth Interface
- Ricoh 5-in-1 Memory Card Reader
- Nvidia 630a Chipset
- 17'' Brightview Widescreen Display
- NVIDIA GeForce 7150M Dedicated Graphics
The problem downgrading to Windows XP from Windows Vista is that HP Compaq now has a policy which stops them distributing drivers for Windows XP if the system was originally designed for Windows Vista. Obviously this gave me a headache of finding the drivers for the system and led to a case of trial and error. After 14 hours of searching, installing and uninstalling I finally got all the missing drivers for the system and it runs pretty well.
I compiled all the required drivers in a zip file required for Windows XP. I done this specifically for the HP Pavilion dv9605 ea model but there could be a chance that it will work on the HP Pavilion 9600 series as well but I hold no guarantees. The link for the drivers are here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LX1W6FJ4
This is a first time I compiled a set of drivers so any comments for them would be grateful. Obviously before doing any changes please create recovery discs provided by HP before going ahead with the downgrade. I hope this gives people a more open choice whether they want Vista or XP on their HP system.![]()
