Why do most notebook manufacturers insist on installing the XP Home Edition on most notebooks?
It seems to me that Professional Edition would make more sense, especially if users will be networking.

I would rather not pay for any OS pre-installed at all. But since they give no choice, I go the cheaper way. I'm using home all the time and I don't see any prob. What is it about PRO that I may be missing?..
P.S. I have a free PRO-upgrade CD, but it collects dust. Should I be using it? -
I never played around with a Home Edition, but I will have to wait until I get the new laptop this week

Pro is more expensive than Home, all of those notebook manufacturers do have to pay Microsoft to use the OS on any computer they make and the cost of course just gets passed onto the consumer so you actually own that copy of the OS. If you'd prefer to pay more for Pro, you can get just about any laptop with that option.
