New to the forum and I've been doing some reading on this topic. I just purchased a dv2700tse ( dv2700t special edition for forum search purposes) and like others, I want to install XP. I wanted to see if there was any progress on getting this done and still having ACPI work. If there is not, I wanted to see if anyone had tried to take an image, with Ghost or something, from a Windows XP dv6700t and trying to overlay it on a 2700t. I know some of the drivers won't work (sound, touchpad, or other some such non-sense), but the hard drive controllers are the same and that way Windows would have ACPI installed.
Please let me know if this has been tried, I've read through almost all of the 75+ pages of the other thread regarding the dvx500t and didnt see anyone trying that out. My apoligies if I shouldnt be posting in both places, it seems to make sense since it relates to the other topic, but is also a new topic.

I tried this myself by downgrading the BIOS to F.13, installed Windows XP without any problems, with SATA-drivers and such, had everything up an running, then upgraded the BIOS. Wham! Blue screen on every boot, even in safe mode. Had no options but to reinstall with Vista.
I thought about trying to boot up a PE environment with Bart PE to see if I could 1) get PE to boot at all, and 2) be able to downgrade the BIOS again in PE, but I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. -
stureplan - How did you downgrade the BIOS? Did you just run the H-P BIOS update with an older BIOS or is there some work-around? I wish I had known about the the BIOS "fix" when I had my dv2700 - it was a very nice system other than the XP problem...TIA
-
I'm quite curious though why they did like this. Is it a simple bug or is it a deliberate move to force ppl to use Vista? And what are the differences between XP and Vista when it comes to dealing with variations of the ACPI standard.
As a sidenote I also downloaded the (at christmas time) latest beta version of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP from Technet. Same problem. Apparently SP3 will not help us out here. -
So wait, when you downgraded the BIOS, did you lose features and functionality? If not, why did you try to upgrade the BIOS if everything was working?
I really wouldnt mind an older BIOS if all the difference was it didnt support Penryn processors or something silly like that. -
I like to keep all my hardware as updated as possible. Besides, I actually do plan to put in a Penryn in my dv2580.
-
Well, then that would be the "fix" for the dv2700t. Downgrade to F13 BIOS and then you can install XP with fully support for ACPI and everything else. Does that sound right?
-
why would you want windows xp exactly? just disable aero, and all the "extras"
on vista and you have a more secure version of winxp -
stureplan - Thanks for your reply. I don't have internet access every day so I just saw your response. For dave911 - I like XP for a number of reasons, but a couple are much smaller footprint on the hard-drive, boots faster, copies much faster (copying ripped movies, eg) and its the second OS on most of my systems (dual-booters). I like having two OS's on one system - I can pick which one I boot into....

Doesnt look like this thread is getting much action. But I wanted to update everyone anyway and say that I've done a successful downgrade to BIOS F.13 from F.25 on a DV2700T. The BIOS version F.13 was found on the 2699 Drivers page on the HP website.
The only issue I have noticed is that there are two unknown devices in device manager now. At first I thought it was the sound card, but after a reboot, I have nice clear sound, no problem. One of the items is a Modem device for the HD card, but since no one has used dial-up in the last decade, I'm not too worried.
All that is beside the point though, I will now be attempting an upgrade TO Windows XP FROM Windows Vista on a DV2700T. According the research from here and elsewhere, this should work in theory; and as we all know communism works in theory.
I will update after I try the slipstream CD I have. -
XP is installed on the DV2700T. No BSOD's or ACPI errors at all. This is after a 12 hour burn in and multiple reboots.
Noted problems, the audio drivers do not seem to want to take, and yes I have installed the UAA stuff from HP. Also, I have about six devices that are USB Root Hubs and I dont know where to point them for the driver.
And I forgot to mention I dont know which RealTek NIC drivers to install. The ones in the guide do not work. Any help would be appreciated, but overall, it looks like the original concensus about the DV2700T not running XP is false as Dwight would say. -
Is all the hardware besides the LAN working? The USB hubs could be the memory card reader and Im sure you have done it but if you havent, the windows update might get it for you. Doesnt the 2700t have a Marvell NIC or does it depend?
-
I have a 2700 in the mail. I was wondering what the update was on your xp install. Have you figured out the last device conflicts? Im definitely going to try this when i get it. Vista is garbage.
-
Not the USB reader, still didnt figure those out. But external USB drives won't come up, so I assume it really is related to a USB Hub something or other.
Network card is a Realtek 8 something PCI-E. -
o no i guess im forced to stick it out with vista.
-
I guess I should have re-phrased. I gave up on the USB issue. I went back to Vista because I needed to actually get some work done. Im sure there is a solution, I just didnt have time for it. If you go and try it, know that XP will go on there just fine, you just have to search for a driver or two.
