Hello. I've got a problem with HP DV5-1060ew. I've installed Win XP according to "Joshua wood" instructions... link . All device have been installed. No conflicts or unknown devices. I was happy that I changed from the dumb Vista to a normal system. But the happiness didn't last long. When I cofigured wifi and started downloading files from the internetm it appeared that transfer instead of 1,2Mb/s (10Mbit/s) is 256 kb/s (2,56 Mbit/s). I tried many things. Reinstallig intel Ich9 SATA, matrix storage driver and many other. It didn't help. I've still got low download speed. Maybe it's something to do with SATA controller and HDD has low data flow, maybe WIFI config, please, help me. I'm intent on Win XP, but on transfer too. Regards

I've just gone back to XP after trying Vista for a bit. It seems under XP my wireless keeps dropping a lot. The signal strength is very low where I am, but Vista seemed to maintain it. I haven't done much testing on this yet, but it seems to possibly be related to hibernate or standby, as a system restart will cause it to connect, when 1min prior it would not. Anyone notice anything like this?

In short i didn't observe such an effect. Under XP the transfer jumped a few times to 750 kb/s but after that it went down to 256 kb/s. I'm losing any hope on success in doing it under XP. Regards.

You might try to tweak your TCP stack using the information from here. I have used it with success on two desktop machines where the download speed was low when running XP (this is only an XP issue, not necessary with Vista).

    http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

    i.e.
    - Run the Java Tweak Tool
    - Click on Results when Finished
    - Enter in your dsl or cable speed info and OS.
    - Click on recommend

    - Tweak Tester Result - On this page look at:

    4. Notes and Recommendations

    download/use DRTCP

Download the file and run it. Set the value in the Tcp Recieve Window: 65535

Leave the other fields at default or blank as they are.

    Click Save

Helo. I did everything according to your instructions. It improved my transfer speed, but not to max. It reaches 980 Kbit/sec, when under Vista it was reaching 1200 Kbit/s. The site show me such results:

I changed RWIN to 325580, reboot xp, it's still the same. 9800 KBit/s.
But it's not bad after all. I think I'll leave it like that.
    Thanx

You entered your Download Speed as 13000 kbit/s. What kind of service do you have or is that an error? That would be 13Mbit/s. i.e. My DSL, ATT Pro, has an advertised max of 3000 kbit/s but my typical download rate is 2500 Kbit/s or about 312KB/sec.

To me your RWIN value is way to high but if it works what can I say. In your last paragraph you indicated your download speed was 9800 kbit/s. I think you added one to many zero's. :)

I have a cable network with transfer 10Mbit/s, what gives a real download speed of 1-1,3 Mb/s. It's a very fast network. I have internet from cable TV - "upc chello" :) :)
