Im making a new thread for everyone to come in and help make XP on DV7T happen. Right now Im running Vista x64 & its just slow... Boots slow, 3D is slow, programs opening slow.

Here is my progress so far:

    Windows Running Slow
Using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 Slipstreamed made things ALOT easier.

Windows XP install disc Black screen When booting off the CD to install
-I think this is caused by the video going thru the VGA port & not to the Laptops screen, Windows is installing in the background & everything returns to normal after it prompts you for install info, or eventually bluescreens.

SP3 & SP2 Windows Xp CDs will bluescreen during textmode install
-Download 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility for Intel Matrix Storage Manager. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2101&DwnldID=16013&lang=eng
-Use NLite to slip stream these drivers into the Windows XP CD(it will ask if you are sure you want to install textmode drivers. http://www.nliteos.com/

After Textmode Install, Windows installation 1st reboot fails with drive error occurred. Cant reach the 2nd part of the install
-Delete the partition on your drive & format

Sound Doesnt install, No Sound After Reboot, Cant Install HDMI audio
-To get bootable sound. I used the devcon.exe hack + autoexec in the statup folder.
    -Devcon can be found here
    --http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272
-I made a text file. renamed it to "devcon.bat" & typed this
    --devcon.exe restart "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E&SUBSYS_30F4103C&REV_03"
-Then I placed the file here
    --C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

-\sp41398\WDM\Vista\idtcpl.cpl (Run this file & turn off power management to fix the popping issues)

The driver is found in (sp41398\HDAQFE\xpsp2\us\update)

Ok, I am not going to respond as a vista FanBoy here but... May I have what the specs of your dv7t are. I find it hard to believe that any current system is going to be slower than what your old system was even if it was running XP.

DV7-1020US Specs but I upgraded the ram to 4GB PC6400 & I have dual 320HDs. One has Vista x64 install the other has WinXP.

Searching for IDT Audio Codec drivers is a bit painful because they already have an issue with Windows update knocking out sound compluetly on Dells. Also, I have no way of getting the chip its using.

update- got working sound but with limited functions. Sound plays thru the headphones jack & HDMI Cable. The Laptop speaker sound only goes thru the subwoofer tho. Looks like the main laptop speakers are being used as a microphone lol

Found out the model number for the TV tuner Mini-PCIe Card is AverMedia A317-B with the NXP SAA7136E Chipset. I noticed alot of other Mini-PCI-E TV cards being sold in Asia so maybe the the last missing driver will pop up soon

Found TV Tuner Drivers. Turns out the Vista x32 Drivers worked for Windows XP too. I did a Manual Install by extracting the sp39567.exe & setup.exe with 7Zip until I got the Vista X86 folder.

I missed this before because WinRAR was unable to extract the setup.exe files.

Then I ran Beyond TV to watch some TV. Both Digital ATSC & Analog HP tuners picked up channels but the antenna I have bundled is VERY weak.

The remote doesnt work & it looks like Im missing the IR port drivers

Does anyone know if the voice input will sound fine?

I had a problem when putting XP on the 9700 where everything would work fine except the voice input with a mic. It would sound very low and fuzzy.

So you have drivers for everything working ok mnp2005, except the sound driver keeps disappearing on restart? Or are there other missing drivers?

I mentioned that IR driver because even though it's oly listed as Vista, sometimes these work fine on XP still.

OK well according tho this: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19683

It is possible to get the sound working on this laptop. However, when i try to extract the zip from the first post, i keep getting an error...The link is here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=2216 If anyone could extract it and repost the files i would greatly appreciate it.

Also, the person with a dv7t there said:

-Edit I fixed it with a modified UAA Bus Driver found in the drivers. The Device IDs are

    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B2&SUBSYS_103C30F4&REV_1003
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B2&SUBSYS_103C30F4

Anyone here have any idea how to do this? Also, what is this "modified UAA bus Driver" he speaks of?

    Hi all!
I've been searching for threads like this the last week because I'm not able to install Windows XP on my DV7. I've tried to integrate the drivers in my XP cd without success. Can anyone please (!!) explain to me in detail how to install WindowsXp. The drivers (for sound, 9600m gt etc) aren't that important, but I need to get this thing working.

    What I've done so far:
    - Copied WindowsXP files from the CD onto Computer (Q: what kind of XP CD do I need? Will every CD work, including OEM with SP2?)
    - Integrate SATA drivers with nlite (Q: Which ones exactly do I have to download/integrate, would be nice if explained step by step for nlite)
    - Burned CD and booted on DV7T with error screen telling the following (Q: Is there anything else I will need to install XP on the laptop? Audio drivers aren't important as they can be installed afterwards and because I'm using external sound card it not important..)

No luck on the IR driver. The Hardware ID is hidden meaning it doesnt show up in WINXP control panel. if it did I bet it would install itself.

THE IDT/Sigmatel Modded inf turns out wasn't needed. The Vista version of the IDT codec on HP's site will install fine. The INF will most likely be useful if I can get a hold of the IDT chip model number used in the DV7/5s

The problem is the driver is missing the Vista control panel & the outputs are wired wrong. There is also no jack sensing.

Basically since the DV7t threw a woofer on the bottom, the codec thinks thats the Primary speaker. It then thinks the top stereo speakers are microphones & you will hear the fans on your microphone lol.

The mic input jack or built in mic didnt work for me. Headphones worked tho & sound only comes from the bottom of the laptop. HDMI audio worked fine but there isnt any volume control over it

Next problem is crappy Microsoft UAA drivers. You must uninstall them & install the drivers from The HP Vista IDT codec pack. It reverts back to an older version where you get the modem, Nvidia HDMI audio, & Audui codec to all appear. Also I realized everytime you reboot, you must restart the UAA driver in the device manager to get the audio & modem to appear.

The UAA Bus Driver is the source of the problem because ALL audio devices & I think speakers too are handled by the Audio Bus, but the IDT codec needs work too to fix the Speaker/Mic problems.

Ok, I did what you said and it still disappears after I reboot...any ideas on where to get a corrected UAA Bus Driver? The guy from the forum i linked to says he used a "modified" one....I've meessaged him about it, but he hasn't replied. Also, I am not getting any modems to appear...I'm running service pack 3, any ideas? The device IDs for the UAA bus are:

    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B2&SUBSYS_103C30F4&REV_1003
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B2&SUBSYS_103C30F4

    Does this help?

That was probably me talking about a modded UAA bus driver. They have a different version inside the vista drivers for vista & a different version for XP.

From what I read, a windows update long ago crashed the IDT drivers & ruined sound for alot of folks. Im guessing this is what happened on the HPs as well. I haven't had tome to experiment with different UAA versions but the SP3 Version doesnt work at all & the HP IDT Vista Driver version will work until you reboot, then you must restarted the driver.

I'm a gamer, and vista + nvidia geforce do not mix. Crash crash crash. They've known about the issue since vista was in beta and have done NOTHING about it. I have no choice other than to switch to xp. There are also people on this forum who need to run xp instead of vista for specialized business needs. If only it was that simple...

When I tried to intsall xp with sp2, the installer would format my hard drive, and then copy over the files, but after it rebooted it would say "failed to load operating system" I tried SEVERAL times, formatting and reinstalling, to get my sp2 version of xp pro to work to no avail. Any suggestions here? Also, is there any way to stop the drivers from getting disabled when we reboot?

yup...my friend has a dv7 also and i'll try sp2 on his today as well. But I'm thinking that it won't make any difference since I have the same results as you thus far...all the audio devices show up in device manager until reboot. Also, I have like 5 "unknown devices" in device manager, is it the same for you?

Did you get it to work even after reboot? or do you still have to go into device manager and disable/enable that adapter?

Also, I'm installing xp on my friend's dv7t also and the bootup takes like 10 minutes (Literally!) I dont know what it is...but during the startup the xp loading screen freezes, then comes back, then the screen goes black for a long time before the mouse comes up. However, when I try booting in safe mode it's really fast. The only difference between his as mine is that his has the tuner and it has the blue ray drive.

    Any ideas?

    Good news!

I just did another clean install on his laptop and the sound works perfectly, even after reboot!

here's what i did: I did a full format of the hard drive, reinstalled xp pro, ONLY installed the driver for the wireless card and went straight to windowsupdate.microsoft.com Then I chose custom, selected ALL the updates, including the hardware ones, and let it update and restart. I was so surprised to hear the login sound playing after it restarted!

I'm going to try this again on my dv7t and see if it works also.

    I'll post the results.

What service Pack did you use?

Is there perfect sound or only from the subwoofer on the bottom?

Also Can you test the Mic Input jack & built in Mic?

Is the IR port in the control panel?

Yeah! That's the problem I had with XP. The mic input was really low, volume wise. No matter what I did the volume wouldn't go up.

Everything is working great for me! I've rebooted like 100 times, and every time I hear that wonderful login noise. Anyways, the sound is DEFINATELY comming out of the speakers on the top, i turned the volume up and put my hand ontop of the speakers and felt the vibrations from the noise. I put in a movie and it sounds great. Headphones work too...both jacks. The speakers turn off when the headphones get plugged in, and the mute button in the front turns orange. (obviously). Unfortunately, I dont have a microphone...so I can't test that.

This right here is a beautiful thing:

Just one question now...what the heck is this foppy drive thing?

Also, if enough people are interested, I can make a guide with all the steps and drivers i used...let me know

Seems I have a bit of a problem that i didn't realize before. The battery isn't showing up in device manager, and the power settings are all weird. When i shut down it says "it is now safe to turn off your computer"

this is REALLY annoying. Anyone know how to get rid of this?

What Service Pack did you use?

It seems like you probably got a Microsoft version of the centrino 2 chipset drivers making everything install friendly. The result is a odd FDC controller which shouldnt exist on this laptop. But on a side not in bios I disabled the floppy settings so thats why I dont see it in my control panel

I tried installing XP with SP 3 and 2 again however in windows update there was only 3 Drivers to be installed. The touchpad, network drivers, & the HP sensor

I'm doing a repair right now on one of the dv7t's to see if it corrects the power settings.

If it doesn't work I'll try starting over again...im pretty sure i know what i did wrong...

I used an windows xp sp2 cd slipstreamed with sp3 and the intel drivers.

As of right now...I dont think you want to do what i did..the lack of power management gets very old very fast...im trying another clean install, I'll post the results.

The sound doesn't work when I installall xp normally. When I do it the way that makes everything work, the processor is not identified correctly (yes, I tried installing the chipset drivers from intel). It shows up as a core 2 duo processor with only 1 core...what the heck????

Anyways, I'm reinstalling xp the normal way...sound doesn't work anymore but I'd rather have the 2.8ghz centrino 2 processor that I paid for.

Any ideas/suggestions...please post here. If you want i can tell you the way I installed it that makes everything work in device manager. Perhaps someone else on here can figure this out.

I'm experiencing the same problems like you with sound. atm, I'm trying to make a dual-boot with the recovery dvd. Seems to be a little complicated too. Is the aim of this thread to give the people all the info they need (for working audio drivers etc)?
