    UPDATE:
anyone viewing this for the first time, or after a long time, check bottom of page 5 (check last 3 posts or so) for the link to all WinXP windows xp drivers for the dv6500 and dv9500 and also an (incomplete) guide

    UPDATE #2:
    check this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2423040&postcount=138

    UPDATE #3:
    check this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165319

    ----------------------------------------
i just got a dv9500t preinstalled with Vista. i would like to install XP Pro on it instead. i used Vista for a while on this laptop, and i really dislike it.

ive read the guides on this site and others, but i cannot find updated guides.... meaning, the guides are for the dv9000 and dv6000.

the difference is that the BIOS is different; i cannot disable SATA
    the chipset is different
the SATA driver is different; for dv9500 its ICH8M and for dv9000 its ICH7M

i need major help finding the driver for ICH8M so i can install XP Pro..... and maybe also other hardware.

does anyone have the SATA driver for the dv6500/dv9500?

    HP Pavilion dv9500t

I sent my dv9500t back - it's junk because of what they did with the BIOS!

I'll explain. HP has had Phoenix make a "locked down" BIOS in the dv9500t. It does not give the option to control the SATA drives which means you can NOT un-hide the hard drives.

I bought the dv9500t with dual drives so I could dual-boot Vista Ultimate (64-bit) and Windows Server 2003 R2. It came with Vista Ultimate pre-installed. When I ran the Windows Server 2003 R2 (Genuine MS) setup DVD, it reported "no hard drives found." So I ran the excellent freeware program VistaBootPro 3.3 and it reported that the hard drives were either missing or "hidden." I'll explain. See, HP tries to lock the consumer down into using only their "factory" installation which includes their tweaked version of the opsys and lots of "crapware" from vendors such as Vonage and Vongo and AOL who pay HP to include their software on every machine sold.

With older Pavilions, you could go into the BIOS and turn off what HP calles "SATA Nativity" mode which woould then allow other operating systems to see the hard drives. But on the dv9500t there is no such option to change the "SATA Native" mode which really ought to be called "HP Hidden Drive Mode."

This has worse implications than just keeping the iser from having a dual-boot machine. It also means you can't run Linux. Worst of all, it almost certainly means you'll never be able to upgrade to whatever comes after Windows Vista! This, because other operating systems simply can't see the hidden drives.

Now the average consumer might not care about this, but nobody tells ME what I can and can't do with MY $4400.00 computer! HP's tech support people are terrible too. Most have no idea what SATA is, none among the dozen I suffered with had ever heard of (TPM) Trusted Platform Modules, and all said dual boot is "possible on the dv9500t but not supported." Finally my support ticket (about the hidden drives) was "escalated" to a Case Manager. This guy was a technical lightweight of goosefeather proportions! HP's tech support people, especially the Bangalore-outsourced script-readers, are useless.

Their totalitarian attitude and design decisions are sad because otherwise the dv9500t is a fine machine. The integrated fingerprint reader was very nice, the UltraBright (two bulbs) screen was gorgeous, the Lightscribe DVD burner was great, and the 4GB RAM option were reasonably priced. Perhaps best of all, the dv9500 is one of the only machines available anywhere right now, along with the Toshiba Qosmio, which is DirectX 10 compliant, both having the new nVidia 8600M GS GPU. (None of the other big brands are bothering to mention that none of their laptops will ever support DirectX 10, as all other GPUs are of the old DirectX 9 architecture.)

But nice as the dv9500t is, it's got the FATAL DESIGN FLAW of the hidden drives, locking the user in to only using the HP factory-customized operating system. Buy the dv9500t and it's Hp's way or the highway - and your support will stink.

I will stand by all I have said and will answer any questions.

Um, Windows XP can't see the drives because it needs the SATA drivers installed.
You need to slipstream the SATA drivers onto an XP CD or use the F6 option to load the SATA drivers first, so XP can see the drives.
HP doesn't prevent you from doing this, they just make it harder by not allowing you to disable SATA native mode in favour of appearing as normal IDE drives in the BIOS.

    Marmion:

Have you actually tried your suggestion on an HP Pavilion dv9500t? There IS no F6 option and BIOS locks you out from ANY control over the drives. Any solution would be greatly appreciated - I'd gladly eat my words if someone can prove me wrong, but it would need to be somebody who actually DID it on a dv9500t.

Oh, and I wasn't trying to boot Windows XP Pro - I'm trying to build a dual-boot machine with Vista Ultimate (64-bit) and Windows Server 2003 R2. I'll do XP and other operating systems under VMware Workstation 6 on the Vista Ultimate side and under VMware Server on the Windows 2003 Server R2 side. The huge screen real-estate opton (1920x1200) on the Sager NP9260 will allow for some very nice virtualized environments (also planning to have Redhat Enterprise Linux 4.4, Fedora 7, and Solaris 10 running as virtual machines).

I'm about to try a fix for a similar problem on my incoming dv6000t. I'm going to image my factory dv2000t XP MCE OS onto a replacement SATA drive and attempt to boot that drive in the dv6000t. This XP MCE build has the SATA drivers already on it so hopefully it will be a workaround to the newer BIOS. I don't know if this will work or not (and no one has responded to my question) :( - but I think it will be fine. I may have to update the chipset driver and a couple of others. I did not know about the BIOS change from the older dvX000 series - my dv2000 BIOS allows it to be switched from SATA to non-native SATA.

Oh right, sorry I was assuming you were installing XP  . I don't know of a work around, unless you could somehow slipstream SATA drivers onto the 2003 CD. Anyway the specs of that Sager look to trounce the dv9500t and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it :)
I don't personally own or know anyone with the dv9500t, being in NZ where they aren't even out yet! I know my 6910p has the option to disable SATA mode, but its a business notebook so one would expect that (and its available with XP).
    Enjoy your new notebook!

I have 9500t installed XP by myself.

I am not sure if I totally understand your problem. I was trying to install XP CD and found out that I couldn't proceed to installation screen because it says harddrive is not found.

Later I figured that I need to download the southbridge driver from Intel. It would be easier if you have the USB floppy and put the driver there, then XP installation will be able to see the hd. And I installed XP successfully in 9500t.

I believe the easy BCD program can help you do the dual-boot in Vista. But I didn't study this further cause I just don't want Vista installed in the machine at all.

and not only BIOS sucks.... they provided no driver for XP at all. Sadly with many customers thinking that supporting XP in DVx500t is unnecessary and silly, I am not optimistic about ever seeing an official download.

well probably don't really matter anyway since you returned your HP. :)
ur new machine sounds really cool, but is it really a laptop?? doesn't sound too mobile? i dunno. ;)

hey thanks alot for your help guys! i FINALLY got WinXP installed on my dv9500. and wow, i must say that is BLAZING FAST compared to Vista on the SAME setup.... wow.

with some minor trouble, i got all the drivers installed as well, except for the HP Webcam and my nvidia 8400M GS.

i used the driver from "nogodforme" site, and it worked well.. except when i put the computer to sleep or hibernation. it wouldnt wake up fully. so i had to do a hard-reset. when the computer booted up again, it said that the problem was from the video driver... so i uninstaled it because i use sleep feature ALOT.

and also i updated my SP1 to SP2 and all other updates (dont know why i didnt do it before the drivers!!) and i cant put my computer to sleep anymore..... nor hibernation. how can i install the webcam drivers? when/where can i get the drivers for my 8400M GS that works? and how can i get my computer to sleep again?

once i get everything working, i will burn a new WinXP disk.... this time with all the correct drivers and with SP2 + updates.

also, how can i slipstream the "Autopatcher" patches for SP2?

    @mujjuman

to get xp to sleep and hibernate install the latest chipset drivers from intel, and restart your laptop

you can find drivers for your 8400 on www.laptopvideo.com or www.tweaksrus.com. they will probably be beta drivers though so use them at your own risk....

as for the webcam use the vista drivers (look in the swsetup folder), windows will say that the drivers are unsigned, allow the installation anyway. that got the webcam up and running for me.

when you slipstream updates onto your windows xp disc, you dont have to slipstream each update from autopatcher individually. use nlite ( www.nliteos.com) and ryanvm's update pack ( http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html). the update pack includes all the updates on windows update after sp2. use nlite to slipstream windows xp sp2 and the update pack

    thanks brt02

but the update pack is 40MB, which seems way too small to have ALL the updates since SP2.... are you sure its everything since?

also, i installed the chipset drivers (before SP2) and i could sleep/hibernate. but ever since SP2 i cannot do that anymore. i reinstalled the chipset drivers, but i still cannot do it.

hopefully after i make my post-SP2 disk, it will work after i install the chipset drivers. thanks for your help!

also, my wireless is SOOOOOO slow when im running on battery compared to on AC power. i went into the device properties and turned off power management (made it max performance instead of max battery) and its still slow. any idea how i can make it faster?

oh yeah, those SATA drivers were really hard to get my hands on. im planning on uploading it somewhere and posting the link here so its easier for others.

ok, i figured out that i needed the nvidia driver in order for me to sleep/hibernate. but what good is it if i cant even turn it back on after sleep? these drivers work, until i put the laptop to sleep.

    Hi taktakb!

Thanks for your input! Yeah, the Sager NP9260 rocks and runs circles around the HP Pavilion dv9500t, and for only a few hundred more (plus the extra $285 for the third 250GB hard drive). Altogether my Sager has 0.7TB of storage! Crazy, huh?!

You can get it with a maximum of 750GB (3x250GB) but the 250GB drives are only 5400rpm and I wanted my boot drive to run at 7200rpm, so I chose a C: of 200GB instead, thus the 1x200GB@7200 + 2x250GB@5400rpm = 700GB = 0.7TB. As for really being a laptop, you got me to chuckle. :) Heck, just the power supply weights 2.1 lbs ! The machine itself weights around 12 lbs. but weight was never an issue for me, power and flexibility are. This thing has a desktop motherboard and CPU (and all other parts) and is truly a "main battle tank" of a laptop. Best of all, its graphics card is replaceable (little door in the bottom), so I'll upgrade it with an nVidia 8600-class GPU once these are available. In the mean time the Nvidia GeForce Go7950GTX is wonderful (I'm not enough of a gamer to need the SLI) and will be fine for a few years until DirectX10 really takes off.

I briefly used an Alienware Area-51 m9750 and, though it is sweet, even it gets blown away by this new monster. Ah, and best of all, it has true desktop-class, fully open BIOS. Woot!

    Cheers Brother,
    - Hans

glad i was able to help

the update pack has all the critical updates available on the windows update website, autopatcher has extra updates that aren't available through wu so use that afterwards if you want. check the download page for more info.... the update pack has all the updated files and security catalogs for the updates only and not the installer for the updates afaik. this makes the pack smaller than the individual updates.

i would suggest you slipstream sp2, ryanvm's update pack, ie7, wmp11 and the sata drivers onto your disc, and then use windows update to install the latest updates. then use autopatcher to install any other updates you may need....

do you have an intel or amd laptop btw?

ok thanks for the suggestion! i have intel :)
i like the extra updates, so ill install autopatcher afterwards and then do WU

oh yeah, my wireless is so slow, whether its on AC or DC power..... my older laptop and my desktop (both wireless) are normal speed. currently, the only thing connected to the internet is my laptop, and its still slow..... any ideas?

When I first got my 9500 the wireless was really slow even though I could get fast speeds on my old laptop. The only way I got it to work was to completely reset my router and wipe out all my router settings and start again. After I reset router I get very fast internet speed again.

Once you guys get the whole XP thing sorted out on the dv9500t, you might want to create a compatibility web page somewhere that details what needs to be done to get each component working. Where you found the right drivers, what settings you used, what special tweaks were needed, etc.

I did something similar when I loaded Gentoo on my dv9500t. See the web link in my sig to get an idea what I'm talking about. I'm sure there are plenty of others who would like to go this route and that would a lot of people out. :)

here are some updates (if anyone cares :p)

ok i finally figured everything out (except sleep/hibernate which means i dont have correct nvidia driver)
i am very excited at this point, and a guide from me should be coming soon, hopefully with screen shots. it will probably be like the "nogodforme" guide but with less pics.....

i would like to thank everyone who has helped me get this far :)

anyway, resetting my router worked! my wifi is fast again. i was afraid it would be my driver.
i also figured out the HP Webcam! i havent found anything on that yet, so i better hurry and make a guide.
    other than that, everything works.

oh btw, here are my specs:

    core 2 duo T7300
    160GB HD
    2GB RAM
    geforce 8400M
    DVDRW (non HD, non lightscribe)
    hp webcam
    intel wifi and bluetooth
    intel chipset
    motorola modem
    realtek HD audio
    realtek LAN

the ones in bold were the most important drivers

i would like to apologize for lack of updates. my cable modem/company shut off for a while and just got back on.

im using other drivers.... i think its from laptopvideo2go. is it even possible to use hp video drivers? if it is, then maybe you just solved my big sleep/hibernate problem.

yes it is such a nice machine. too bad Vista is pretty slow on it... atleast for me. XP is SOO much faster.

so did you get to install XP yet? what guide(s) did you use?

you have a floppy? is it USB or something?

the easier option would have been to slipstream the driver with the WinXP installation... and then burn the CD :)

glad you found the ICHM8 driver though... it was pretty hard for me to find

ok, i feel bad because i didnt get to update. so here is a rough summary of what to do... there are no details at all in this preliminary version ;)

Windows XP Proffessional Clean Install on dv2500/dv6500/dv9500 (they came with Vista)

    1. All of the guides say this, and im saying it too.... first burn off the recovery partition on DVD(s) to have a backup. im assuming your laptop is shipped with Vista... so click on Start>All Programs>Recovery>Burn Recovery Disks

Actually, im not sure if the folders are called that, but they are named similarly.

    2. Burn the "swsetup" folder, which can be found by clicking on My Computer>C:

    3. Download "nlite" www.nliteos.com and install it.

    4. Create a folder on your desktop (or wherever, i find desktop to be easier) and name in "WinXP"

    5. Download any or all updates (download SP2, and maybe a post SP2 package). save to an accessible folder on the desktop (for easier access)... name it "updates"

    6. Download the ICH8M driver (ill provide this later... but for now youll have to find it yourself... sorry!)

    7. Slipstream the ICH8M driver, SP2, and all updates you may have downloaded using "nlite" (i wont post instructions for this till later.. but it should be straight forward). Burn the CD

    8. If you can, download the drivers to make your hp work beforehand, and burn the CD or put them on flash drive. (Again, for now youll have to find yourself... but ill provide them later. someone please suggest a good host where i can upload them.)

    9. Backup any work you may have.... reboot with the newly created WinXP CD

    10. Go through the WinXP setup, enter key, etc etc. i suggest you keep the recovery partition, just incase. but delete the C:\ partition and create another one... and format it ofcourse.

    11. Once you boot into Windows XP, feel really good about yourself, because half the work is over :)

    12. install the intel chipset drivers, reboot.

    13. install the intel wifi drivers, reboot.

    14. install the WDM drivers, reboot.

    15. install the Realtek HD Audio drivers, reboot.

    16. install the Realtek LAN drivers, reboot.

    17. install the motorola modem drivers, reboot.

    18. install the webcam drivers... use the hp softpack. reboot.

    19. youll notice the hp webcam is still not installed, if you look at device manager. click on the hp webcam in the device manager, click on "install driver" or "update driver" and it should automatically install (yay :) )

    20. reboot..... look at device manager and everything except video will be installed.... for your video driver, you will have to use third party drivers.... ill post the sites up later.

congratulations! you did it! now install firewall, AV, third-party software, MS Office, more Windows Updates, etc. etc. and enjoy.

    --------------

Dont worry, ill post up a full guide with pics and links and actual drivers later.... right now i have so much on my mind and alot of stress...

i hope this rough guide will help some people atleast, and that my full guide will help everyone else. i dont know how long the x500 series are going to be in production for though

    [EDIT]

the hardest part is finding the correct drivers....... i leave that up to you, at this point. just give me a day or two, and a website where i can upload to, and the hardest part will be done for you! :0

I used nogodforme's web page as a rough guide and changed the drivers to be correct for the dv9535 I have.

Honestly, the hardest part was deciphering which sound chip I had. Once I slipstreamed the right SATA drivers into the XP disc and loaded the chipset drivers, it was downhill after that. Total time was about six hours from Vista back to a very snappy XP.

BTW, I burned off the SWSETUP folder as suggested, but was unable to use any of the information. All of the drivers contained in that folder are Vista only, or they were on my machine.

its nice that it took you 6 hours! it took me a bit longer... haha. maybe about a day or two to figure things out... then longer to finalize everything and decide its time for a guide. :)

yes, youre right about the swsetup folder.... but thats just incase you ever need to go back to Vista, or get your own Vista retail DVD, etc. its a precautionary step, just like burning the Recovery DVDs.

i have another update btw.... i finally found a driver that works 100% with my 8400M GS!!! and my sleep feature works too. im assuming hibernate works too. im really happy and this point, but i have no more space on my flash drive for drivers..... no more blank CDs either. i REALLY need someeone to suggest a host/server where i can store these files for everyone including myself to use.

Could you post where you found the 8400M GS driver or do you have to wait for a host to upload it to. I'm currently having the same problem as you with standy by and hibernation mode and have been looking all over for a driver that's 100% compatible with my dv6500 and windows xp.

oh yeah, just to let you know, all the softpacks (sp65464 type files) have modiefied filenames so you know what driver they are... just delete that part of the filename and leave behind "spxxxxxx.exe"
    where x = numbers

the "SATA.rar" file is a file i created
the chipsetdriver can be found at intel's website...
our chipset is GM965 if you have intel graphics and PM965 if you have nvidia graphics

    Hi,
I think this is the right thread to post my problem. I have bought a dv6585ca laptop which is out of dv6500 series.I have to downgrade it to Win Xp. but I noticed that it has'nt got the SATA diable function in the bios setup. So can sombody guide me to still load the xp? or is it not possible at all!
As I asked the HP technicians, they said its not possible at all to load xp on my machine.
I hope genius amongst you will guide me.
    Thanks

    @mujjuman

Much thanks for posting info on how you got XP on your HP.

    I recently purchased a HP DV9535NR notebook:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5250
    2x 120GB SATA HDD
    2GB RAM
    Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS
rest of the specs are similar to what everyone else has in the 9500 series.

hardest part was getting the video drivers, I looked everywhere and finally I got your post with the Drivers for the video, luckely it works great and World of Warcraft works flawlessly (even better than on Vista). Also, I have no problem with Hibernation or Standby, tested them several times without any issues. Everything seems to work great (all except the Vista only TV Card by HP). Much thanks!

As for people having issues with XP installing onto the SATA drives, you can do several things. I recreated my XP Pro disc to have the Mass Storage Drivers on Driverpacks.net integrated. the instructions are easy to follow.

Right now i have a dv9535nr dual-boot with primary drive as Vista Premium and secondary drive as Win XP Pro working perfectly. Appreciate the good work from everyone involved in finding the correct drivers for this great piece of hardware!

I also have to thank you Mujjuman for helping out those who have been crippled from the neck down with vista.

If you need a good uploader, try http://www.megaupload.com/
They'll be temporary, but should last long enough for the files to get hosted somewhere else.

Thanks guys for your help on this Vista to XP thing! almost got it.

HP says it can not be done but apparently a few of you are doing it. Thank goodness. What i got running is smoking on XP!

Boy, I sure wish i could find the drivers to final out my sound card. I got the Realtek High definition Audio (not sure if it is even the right company) but got a yellow exclamation.

I have also have under Other devices (2) yellow exclamation marks for Network Controller and a Unknown device. The rest is good.

It took some trial and error for the Video drivers but my machine finally liked the
Nivida 101.34 driver after working it down from the 16x.xxx set.

Any help on the rest?? I have read about every thing I could find but no success.

I tried Mujjuman's list but see the bandwidth was exceeded

Well One thing I am almost sure of, it is not a Realtek High definition Audio as I was receiving a error on rebooting PROPSYS.dll was not found..

going into Control panel add/remove software and removing the Realtek software cured the reboot problem.
I am almost sure it is a Conexant High definition Audio but I have not had any luck finding a workable driver. I tried several different drivers from HP from different DV series of laptops to install, no luck.

will keep searching web and checking back here, hopefully for some of the folks in this form to be kind and give us some direction.

Damn! I hate the thoughts of having to go back to Vista, I had about 36 failed update installs through windows update and could not remove them to try installing them one at a time. Plus Vista was slower than molasses in winter

Well a quick note, After spending $69.00 dollars for HP tier 5 tech support I found out my sound card is a Realtek sound card. Note: The 1st free HP tech insisted it was a Conexant card.... not!

The tech had me download the Realtek R1.54 V which also failed. After going to the Realtek web site and down loading the latest version WDM R172a and 1st installing UAA Bus Driver off the HP web site for the 9500t ..... I NOW HAVE Sound. I never have been sooo happy to hear the windows log in sound ;0)

    I got every thing to load in the Device manager except;

    1. Other devices
HP Integrated Module Tier 5 tech said this is for Vista and cannot be fixed so disable it in the device manager
Modem device on High definition Audio Bus He told me it was a Conexant Modem driver (I do not know as I have not tried the phone line yet) and had me down load what appears to be a generic driver and said this yellow exclamation mark will always be there??? hard to understand his accent but a nice fellow.

So, The major hurdle I have now is trying to find a updated Nivida 8600M GS. I am currently using the Nivida 101.34 driver, which I suspect is the reason I am unable to install the Adobe products Priemer 3.0 Elements and Photo Shop Elements 4.0.

If I can get this problem solved I think I will be good to go! I will post if I can find anything out........ Good Luck All! I have never seen XP-Pro SP-2 run so fast :)

whoa guys.... i didnt know that there were still so many people trying to install XP on their Vista x500 laptops.....

i sorta decided to cancel the guide, but now i will resume it.
i will upload the drivers on megaupload (link coming as soon as i finish upload)

it will be in rar format (download/install winrar)
the file will contain all the drivers including SATA drivers, and is less than 175MB (thank God!!)

    1. once you download the drivers, unrar it.
    2. take the SATA drivers from the SATA folder and slipstream it using nLite
    3. reboot with the new WinXP slipstreamed CD
    4. install OS
    5. install drivers.

lol thats the shortest summary (5 easy steps)

Here is a semi-final Version of my guide. it doesnt include installing drivers part though, but thats coming in a couple hours or so. Im going to reinstall XP and take pics while i install the drivers for better reference.

    -------------------------------------------------

Installing Windows XP on a hp dv6500/9500

This guide was created specifically for the dv9500t with the Santa Rosa CPUs.
Reasons why this guide was made:
    • Hp did not include turning on and off native SATA support, so normal Windows XP disks could not even recognize the hard drive.
    • It was VERY hard for me to find the drivers for the hardware, so I included it in 1 location so that it is easier for others
    • The folks at Notebookreview.com pressured me to
For dv2500 owners, this guide MAY or MAY NOT work…. I have noticed that some hardware is different.

Here are my specs, so that you may compare mine to yours and figure out what you need to do different if we have different hardware.

    Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz 4MB cache)
    2GB RAM
    160GB Hard Drive
    8x Superdrive (not with Lightscribe)
    HP webcam
    Intel wireless with Bluetooth
    nvidia 8400GS
    Quicklaunch Buttons
That media Cardreader thing (what is it called?)

A Note for those with integrated Intel graphics:
My drivers do NOT include the integrated intel graphics. That means that you will have to download your own drivers. You can get them from here: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/sb/CS-025753.htm
Those who have integrated graphics have the Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset
Those who have the nvidia graphics have the Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset

Now some things to do before we begin:

    1. Obtain 3 DVDs (or 1 DVD DL)
    2. Burn the Recovery disks… they are very important!! Yes I know they will contain Vista, but please burn the recovery disks. It will take 3 (three) 4.37GB DVD-R or 1 (one) Dual-Layer DVD-R. I used the single layer DVDs. You will have to burn the recovery disks because installing Windows XP will render the recovery partition useless. I found that out the hard way. So Please Do It.
    3. Having a high capacity flash drive (1GB or more) is really useful. This isn’t necessary, but it saved me from burning an extra CD. Navigate to the C: drive and save the swsetup folder and save it to a flash drive.
    4. Save any documents, pictures, files, pr0n you may have stored. I didn’t have anything because I didn’t use Vista for more than a few days.

On the Road to Windows XP (slipstreaming SATA drivers and SP2):

    1. Go to www.nliteos.com and click on download and click on the latest non-beta version. Install once it is done. Restart if you have to, download any Framework version you may be asked to download.
    2. Take your Windows XP CD and copy the contents to the desktop. Easiest way to do this is to right-click the drive after you inserted the disk, click copy, and paste it to the desktop. It will create a folder on the desktop with the CD contents
    [IMG]
    3. If you haven’t done so already, download the drivers that I have uploaded. Download and install WinRAR from www.rarlabs.com
    [IMG]
    4. Extract the drivers from the file you downloaded. Take note of the SATA folder :)
    5. Download Service Pack 2 network install (full version) from Microsoft (this is if you don’t have an SP2 CD)
    6. Once everything is downloaded, open nlite, click next. The second screen will ask you to browse to your XP folder (it should be where ever you put it)
    7. Keep Clicking next until you reach the following screen. Click on Service Pack (if you are slipstreaming SP2), Drivers, and Bootable ISO. Click Next.
    8. Choose the Service Pack you downloaded, click next and let it install.
    9. Now on to slipstreaming the SATA driver. Click on insert, then multiple driver folder.
    10. Choose the folder again, click OK. Choose the (Mobile ICH8M-E/M) driver, click Next.

    11. Now its time to burn. I find it easier to do a Direct Burn. Name the CD “WXPSP2” or whatever you desire…. As long as you know that it is a Windows XP SP2 CD. Click on “Verify” just incase, and click on Burn.

    12. Now you are Done!

Some Final Things to do Before we Install Windows XP:

    1. Make sure that you burned recovery disks.
    2. Make sure that you saved your documents, work, pictures, game data etc.
    3. Make sure to download and save the WinRAR setup file from www.rarlabs.com on a flash drive. This is because the drivers that I uploaded are in rar format, and you won’t be able to go on the internet and download it once you install Windows XP.
    4. Save the drivers that you downloaded on a flash drive or CD!

    Installing Windows XP:

    1. This part of the guide is straightforward. Boot from the CD. Lets hope the SATA drivers were properly integrated.
    2. On the screen where it asks you to choose a partition to install, you have many MANY options. Once we install XP, the recovery partition is rendered useless anyway, so you may delete all partitions and merge them into 1 single partition. Or, you may delete all partitions and set them however you want.
    3. This is what I did. I left the recovery partition alone since I didn’t know it won’t work afterwards. I deleted the first partition (drive C) and created 2 partions. 1 partition was 1.1GB or so for a Direct Play partition, and the rest was my primary partition. I haven’t installed Direct Play yet.
    4. Continue to install Windows XP.
    5. Reboot and Enjoy!!!! You will automatically notice how much faster Windows XP is than Windows Vista on the same hardware. At least I know that I noticed.

    -------------------------------------------

Coming up: installing drivers with pics.
