I've reformatted and reinstalled around 3 times on my dv2000t now... I've followed the dv2000t reinstallation guide, and installed all drivers + updated Windows... I don't know why Windows XP is only recognizing 256 MB RAM out of 1 GB...
I also had another dv2000t, and it was exactly the same... I returned that one for this one... But it looks like they're all the same. What can I do?

does the bios recognise the 1gb?

Bad RAM?

try to switch the two 512mb sticks; if it's still unrecognizable, try to check them separately
-
Or try updating the BIOS if it doesn't see the total amount of RAM. -
Can you show us a screen shot of where it says it only has 256mb?
Start>Run>dxdiag>yes
Then press Alt+Fn+insert[prt sc] (That makes you do a screen shot of the active window)
Then load paint press control+v and save it as a jpg.
Then up load it to http://www.imageshack.us/
Then paste the link to that pic here.
If you know how to do the above already, then good! -
Yeah the BIOS recognizes 1GB, and I know the RAM is good, unfortunately I can't give you the screenshot, I restored my laptop to see if it recognized the 1GB and it did.
:-| I don't know why the clean install only recognizes 256?!
