I have a HP 8510p laptop which has the usual windows serial # sticker attached at the bottom. I think the sticker is right on top of plastic lid where the hard drive is located.
I noticed that the sticker is wearing off a little bit and I wondered if it might be due to heat coming from the hard drive?
Does anybody else have that problem? I mean, it's not a big issue at the moment, but it doesn't look very nice and I'm worried that the sticker someday might come off.

The text on the COA sticker will wear out due to friction rather than heat but your Product key should still be visible. It looks like microsoft used different types of ink on the text so as to save $$$.
If you are asking about the hole on top of the security ribbon then thats how its designed....

...so it's supposed to be like that.
Microsoft sometimes really has crazy ideas. Anyways the mystery is solved, thanks! -
What's even more stupid is that method of "copy protection" will actually cause your sticker to start to peel off. if the frayed edges start to roll up, it can catch in things and start to come off. I've been thinking of putting some tape or something over mine to prevent that.
Windows sticker wearing off because of heat?
