So I went out and bout this RangePlus version WPC100 and I go to stick it into my slot thing and it's too small!

I thought that everything was standard.

It slides right into my dad's laptop but not into mine.

Ok, so what type of laptop do you and your dad have?? I am thinking along the same lines as DanaGoyette, and that your laptop doesn't have a CardBus slot. If it's a newer laptop, then it most likely has an ExpressCard 54/34 slot. If this is the case, you should have gotten this version of the card...

I hate to sound cynical, but ... did you take your lappy with you to go get this new card? You would have avoided all this.

Take lappy and card back to store to get one with the correct form factor for your lappy.
