I was looking to upgrade my wireless card in my HP Envy 17t-3200 3D Notebook, I was just wondering if anyone has run across the HP version of this in the HP Parts store or alike website:
Newegg.com - Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC, dual-band, 2x2 Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth 4.0 Mini PCI Express combo Adapter - 867 Mbps+300Mbps - Internal
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
If it is not the version with the HP/IBM firmware on it, then the system will not boot if the card is inserted because HP has their whitelist of cards that only work.
PS there are 3 versions of this 7260 card: N only 2.4GHz, N only 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual band, and Wireless AC... I am looking for the wireless AC version. I put one in my dell XPS 18 with no issue, but cannot find an HP edition to save my life lol.

Are you sure about that restriction? I recently installed the 7260-AC into my HP Envy 15t-j000, and it boots just fine. The main issue I encountered was that there is a checkbox under the Device Manager entry for the Bluetooth portion of the card that says "allow the computer to turn this off if not in use." If I leave that on, the laptop will turn off Bluetooth even though I'm using it, and there's no easy way of turning it back on short of rebooting.

I know it may seem that I am following you! First the SSD, now the wireless card. But I have a new question. I have the intel 7260 on order and I was wondering if the wireless switch works with this card and any other thought you might have about it speed and use. Thanks in advance!

Hp probably stop whitelisting device since ivy bridge generation.

Yes, the Wireless switch works with the 7260. That switch toggles Airplane Mode in Windows, so it will work with any wireless card that Windows can control properly, which should be all of them.
I'm of mixed feelings about the card. On the one hand, I've gotten some very good results when I was close to my wireless-N router. In the 5 GHz band I measured 210 mbps at 6'. On the other hand, the speeds were fairly ordinary once I had some distance and obstructions.
Further, my tested speeds with a Netgear R6100 wireless-AC router were actually worse than my tests with a TP-Link WDR4300 wireless-N router. I was really expecting a big speed jump with AC, since that's the point of the card, but I didn't see them. I'd like to test the card with an Asus AC66U, but I'm not quite prepared to shell out $200 for one. -
Well, it will be an adventure. I just got the new Netgear AC router so I will let you know about that one. Thanks for the info. I am trying to get all the facts I can while I wait for mine to ship.

Hey what do you know.... they must have removed the restriction on the newer HP laptops. I just took the card I put in my Dell XPS 18 and it works fine... now I will order another for the Envy 17.
Thanks -
was anyone ever able to upgrade the HP ENVY 17t-3200 CTO to a 802.11ac?
