I have a dv200t cto (purchase in 8/06) that came with xp. I recently upgraded to ultimate and am having a problem copying large files to/from the laptop over the network. Usually what happens is it gets half-way through a 150megabyte file and looses the connection to the device its copying from/to. Wierd thing is I don't experience any lost connections under normal use (only when copying large files).

I've tried the following so far with no luck:
    1) disable vista firewall
    2) enable broadcasting on linksys router
    3) disable wep
    4) enable wap
    5) disable teredo device in device manager (ipv6-related device)

    So far, no luck!

Any thoughts? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Thanks,
    Troy

I am using a Linksys "G" card on my HP desktop (a1710n) with Premium - but this is still just a guess: Linksys routers (I have a G travel and a G-SpeedBooster) have an annoying tendency to drop the connection every 20 minutes or so. I can always tell (in XP) when the connection dropped because the notification bubble will pop-up saying I'm connected to the router. That said - I wouldn't ever try to pull 150-Mb across a wireless anyway - thats what I use thumb drives and external hdd's for. I think you are asking too much of current Linksys technology when you attempt to pull that much data. Good luck...

    (This is slow but...)

Load up AIM/MSN/Whatever and use file transfer. Does it still cut you off?

150MB is nothing. Linksys can handle it. I transfer very, very large files (8+GB) wirelessly without a problem. Sure its slower than an ex-Hdd but I don't want to have over $100 for one either.

    JellyGeo,

I agree with RedSensiStar. In fact, when I had XP on the same machine with the same network setup, I didn't have this issue at all. I am regularly copying files larger than 5-6 hunred megabytes with no problems. My connection is good/consistent and I don't experience the 20-minute dropouts you mentioned.

I am confident this is a wireless issue on vista. If you do a google search on the intel pro wireless card and vista wireless issues, you will find that many people have had problems. Most of those issues, though, were regularly dropped connections. I haven't seen many that report good connections, but issues copying large files.

You can also goto microsofts news groups (the network news group) and see wireless issues/troubleshooting reported there. I'm trying to get help there as well because mvp's monitor that group...

Does anyone else have any thoughts?
