On my DV8000 I cannot get the Intel Wireless to connect to my router at home, which confuses me because my wife can connect to it just fine, except she's using a broadcom chip. My router at work is the exact same model and setup as the one I have at home and I have no problems connection to it. Anyone have any ideas on what may be going on?

Does the laptop detect the home network? What happens when you try to connect? Do you get an error of any sort? Is the home network encrypted?

Network is detected. try to connect and it says acquiring network address then just fails to connect. network is encrypted with WPA encryption. Is there some kind of weird- setting that isn't compatible with Intel cards or something

no it should connect fine. There are a number of things that you can do.

I’m not sure if you are using xp or vista but basically navigate through to where you manage your pre-configured wireless networks and delete your home network if it is listed there. Retrieve your encryption key from the router and try to connect again to your home network.

Another possible issue is to make sure no IP or MAC filters are activated on the wireless router.

Go the router manufacturer's website and update the router's firmware (I had a router that wouldn't work with a newer computer for that very reason).

You can also check your laptop’s wireless card settings by going to device manager, right clicking the card and going into properties, and browse the advanced tab for anything that looks incorrect.

If all else fails use a paper clip and reset the router using its little reset hole, but make sure you have all your ISP information ready to re-enter the router – username and password etc because resetting the router will delete user information off it. You will also need to re-setup encryption etc.

*edit, making sure you are running up to date drivers on the laptop wireless card is also a good idea.

also check the dhcp pool that your wireless router is handing out.

so many things it could be. HP BLOATWARE be damned!

if you're using a new HP laptop I'm going to assume that the wireless assistant, or some HP app is handling the network connection... so

remove the security setting on the home router temporarily, and see if you can then connect. If so you narrowed it down to a setting, if not then you have narrowed it down to gremlins and or the devil. I'm guessing it will connect. Let us know.

First of all reinstalled the wireless driver just to remove any doubt in my mind that it wasn't working. I reformatted the computer myself so there is no HP bloatware on it, and I use the windows utility on my wireless. WinXP by the way.

Second, I just reset the router by to default setting. I had to change the IP address of the router (running dsl). Now it connects fine, woot!

Next, I enable the security features and a poof, it won't connect anymore. Disabled it and it comes back. Enabled it and now it works intermittently

So the only thing I can get out of all of this is.... What the HELL!!!

BTW - firmware is up to date
