I recently received my DV5T. The volume controls on the laptop are terrible. I have to press down pretty hard to adjust the volume , and then while I was watching a FMV in Dibalo 2 I tried adjusting it and the stupid volume thing came up and interupted the FMV and then on top of that it bugged out. Its not sitting there clicking constantly and I can no longer adjust the volume or even mute it.

Anyone had this happen? Know how to fix this?

Really wish they had just stuck with an analog volume adjuster. This is a pita.

You can do one of the two items that follow, your choice:

    1. Disable the on line Volume Display without uninstalling any software. (It’s easily reversable)

    1. Click the Vista start icon, bottom left.
    2. Type RUN in the Start Search box, ENTER.
    3. Type MSCONFIG in the OPEN: area, Click OK.
    4. Click on Continue if asked.
    5. Select the StartUp Tab in the System Configuration menu.
    6. Remove the Checkmark from the HP Quicktouch On Screen Display item.
    7. Click on OK and Restart if required.

Reverse above procedure to restore to original if desired

    or

    2. Uninstall the HP Quick touch software.

Will I still be able to adjust the volume? Or will it disable it ?

This is your second thread complaining about your DV5, you might as well return it. You've complained about the resolution (which you ordered incorrectly) and now the volume control. I've owned both the DV6500T and now an HDX16T and have not had a single issue with either one in terms of volume control.

It is just a hassle. I could easily adjust the volume on my other comptuer.

This one lags and makes an annoying clicking sound and is all around slower to adjust the volume.. Sometimes substance is preferred over flashy style.

As a whole I am satisfied with my notebook. There are just some issues that bother me.

Having my games crash to desktop and minimize because I am adjusting the volume and some intrusive thing pops up... is ridiculous.

Thank you for the fix. I am about to reboot to see how it does.

I'm not sure what kind of games you are playing but the DV5 isn't really a gaming notebook. Even with the nvidia card it's a little underpowerd. Now granted if you are playing non power draining games the DV5 is a great laptop, but again, the type of game may limit your gaming experience.

I think there is something really wrong with you.

I can play Fallout 3 at 90+ frames on this laptop. So I don't see how it is "not a gaming laptop"

It might not be cutting edge but it has a dedicated video card and can indeed play current games.

And this is all beside the point. Adjusting the volume should not collapse my game , or crash it to the desktop.

Adjusting the volume SHOULD NOT LAG while the computer is processing other information.

Adjusting the volume is the most basic of activities and if this computer is having problems doing this then that is ridiculous.

Adjusting the volume should not be intrusive.

so I am not sure what is wrong with you. Maybe you are a troll, though I would hope people do not come here to troll. But your responses are neither helpful nor wanted.

If you have nothing productive to say go troll another thread.

Adjusting the volume should not crash me to desktop. It should not be difficult.

This is going to be my last reply to any of your threads. You have insulted so many people in your posts and I'm tired of it. I am trying to be helpful but you've posted nothing but complaints and insults. I now see that you posted another thread complaining about Vista's performance and want to go to XP. I've tried to convey that if you have this many issues with your laptop perhaps you should get one that meets all your needs. Higher resolution, analog volume control, windows xp. But all you have done is tell me that I'm wrong, or calling me a troll, or even insinuated that something is wrong with me. You're repsonses sound like you are a child and therefore I am not going to waste any more time trying to help you.

I have not seen you try to be helpful.
I have problems I want to fix... before I give up on the laptop completely...

Why would I freak out and return something that has 1 or 2 issues?

Ya it fixed the stupid thing poping up and interupting FMVs and gameplay.

But its still a pretty terrible way to adjust the volume. Analog would have been cheaper and more effective =-/

I tried these steps, but my Startup tab doesn't have "QuickTouch".
I searched for this in my system, and it also isn't there.
I'm using an HP laptop, and maybe it uses something else?
I'll try to get a screenshot of the list but it won't allow me to expand it, so it would have to be 3 screenshots or so. And I bought this computer only a few hours ago, so I need to download some photo app.
