Somebody brought up in another thread that my HP laptop would only take up to 8GB, but wasn't 100% sure about it. Does anybody know for sure?

Crucial Memory page shows max 8GB. Here. Generally they are very accurate but you could try experimenting with 16GB and see... or try and find someone who as blazed the path already. Likely not... but perhaps worth the effort?

Are there any cheap laptops that they sell at Best Buy that would take 16GB?

I looked around a bit and found no G7 specific Owners Lounge here at NBR, but I did find some hope that your unit should/will support 16GB RAM.
Your HP G7-2323dx = (AMD based A8-4500M) Shows 8GB RAM max at Crucial.
Acer Aspire V3-551G = (AMD based A8-4500M) Shows 8GB max at Crucial.
However,
Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7232 = (AMD based A8-4500M) Shows 16GB max at Crucial.
Lenovo Ideapad Z-585 = (AMD based A8-4500M) Shows 16GB max at Crucial.
ASUS K55N-DS81 = (AMD based A8-4500M) Shows 16GB max at Crucial.
Given the above, the AMD A8-4500M clearly supports 16GB RAM dependent on manufacturer. Perhaps its a motherboard difference or a BIOS configuration that is causing the disparity, but whatever the case, youre likely going to have to do some research/experimentation on your own to find the answer. Maybe take your unit to a local shop and see if 16GB will work prior to purchase?

Would it be more expensive to buy 4 GB of RAM to add to the 4GB that i have in the HP laptop for a total pf 8GB and then try to buy 8GB of additional RAM for a total of 16GB or would it be cheaper for me to buy 16 GB of RAM to replace to 4 GB I have on my computer?
-
Your G7 has only 2 RAM slots. Therefore, if you currently have only one 4GB stick, your options are:
Single Channel Configuration:
4GB + 1GB = 5GB
4GB + 2GB = 6GB
4GB + 8GB = 12GB (only if your unit will support individual 8GB sticks !)
Dual Channel Configuration:
4GB + 4GB = 8GB
8GB + 8GB = 16GB (only if your unit will support individual 8GB sticks !)
Note: Dual Channel memory configuration offers from 0 to 5% memory performance boost dependent on what you are doing.
The real answer to your dilemma is that if you want to use any individual 8GB sticks of RAM in your G7, you are going to have to give it a try (test it one way or the other). Otherwise, your MAX RAM according to most manufacturers is 8GB total. -
I'm seeing 1x4 RAM For about $25. Would it fit ok in my laptop? 1x4 gb sodimm | eBay

There are a bunch of different types of RAM on your reference page at eBay. As long as it is a 4GB SODIMM and either DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-14900 it should work. Look and see what is currently in your notebook and match the specs. If you don't match specs it really doesn't matter because it will down clock to match .... but there isn't much sense in paying for something you don't need.

How do I know ways in my notebook?

Hello Thundr,
Your HP will only support 8GB of memory. From page 1 and page 2 of the HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide located and downloadable here:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03593682/c03593682.pdf
Quote: Two customer-accessible/upgradable SODIMM memory module slots, Supports dual-channel memory, Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM, DDR3-1600 MHz, PC3-12800.
Supports the following configurations:
8192 MB total system memory (4096 MB × 2), no support for 32 bit operating systems
6144 MB total system memory (4096 MB × 1 + 2048 MB × 1), no support for 32 bit operating systems
4096 MB total system memory (4096 MB × 1 or 2048 MB × 2)
2048 MB total system memory (2048 MB × 1)
This manual provides all your system specifications and explains how to remove and install parts for your laptop. It also lists HP part numbers if you choose to purchase them through HP.
Hope this was helpful.

What would be cheapest laptop that I could get, whether new or used, that has 16gb capabilities?
-
Hello Thundr,
I couldn't possible answer that without knowing exactly what you were looking for. And nobody will know what you want or need better than yourself. What will be the main purpose of the laptop? Why is 16GB of memory important? How long do you plan to keep it until you buy a new machine? How large of a display do you want? Do you want a 768p, 900p, 1080p, etc... display. Do you want integrated or discrete (dedicated) video? Do you transport your laptop much? Maybe an all metal body and lid are for you. There are lots of things you must determine before you start looking for the best value. As you mentioned used laptops, I'd recommend amazon (dot com) to get a feel for what features are available in the price range your comfortable with. You can see listings for new and used there. Laptop Computers: Amazon.com
On the left side of the webpage is a list of features that will narrow your search. Play with it, try different combinations see whats available.
All, if not most, manufactures have similar laptop feature guides. Go to their sites and try them out. And do keep a list of laptops, their features, prices and where you found them. It will help you more than you know.
Once your list is filled with computers, you can start comparing features and prices to narrow your search to just two or three that you would be happy with. At this point hit the internet and start looking for coupons and deals. I saved $125 off my last purchase, but there were coupons/deals out there for $200-300 off. I even saw one for 30% off. Of course, they had expired by the time I needed them.
A word of warning. Cheap and 16GB RAM are not usually used together unless you get a deal. When you start looking specifically for 16GB of memory you're getting into the entertainment, high performance, and gaming laptops. What you want is out there but it'll take some effort on your part.
Good Luck.

Workstation 15-17" i7 models have 4 slots, total max. 32GB ram. Same era ProBooks (at least officially) usually have max. at 2x4GB ram. Exception seems to be EliteBook 8560p based ProBook 6560b (same motherboard) that accepts 2x8GB. After a quick glance 8570p and 6570p share same motherboard too between them, 2x8GB max.
Now what is the current gen Probook 15", I wonder if the trend continues? -

I made an exchange, my old gaming desktop for it and gave cash a bit under 500e. Also I spent one day driving around as that was a F2F deal
Model is LG664EA. Considering the price of this configuration varied from country to another between 2500 to 4400 euros, I'm pretty okay with that.

I have HP Pavilion and crucial says 8GB max, this is not correct,,look up your laptop on HP site,, service manual mine shows,pg 53
2GB PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz,,,Spare Part Number-691739-001
4GB PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz,,,Spare Part Number-691740-001
8GB PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz,,,Spare Part Number-693374-001
ebay has 2x8GB for $126.00 that fit,, L-low voltage 1.35V. Im thinking of 1866MHZ as A-5750M have shown up and have 1866MHz controller in APU.
MY HP Pavil. runs 16GB and some have said 12GB each channel, with cost of larger modules going over $100/ea dont expect anyone to step to the box-like manufacturer.
First -check the operating system and see what its maximum ram is.
Next- check the chipset manufacturers specifications and see what configuration and size each channel will run.
Next-Check forums and see who has run what,,also check for bios moddling
Enjoy
Cheers

Would this be it? 16GB 2 x 8GB DDR3 SODIMM 204pin 1333MHz PC3 10600 Laptop Apple HP IBM 1333 16 GB | eBay
BTW this desktop HP Pavilion 500 Desktop 8GB Memory 1.5TB Hard Drive 500-054 - Best Buy says it's expandable up to 32gb, while this desktop HP Desktop 8GB Memory 1TB Hard Drive 110-194 - Best Buy says it's expandable to 16gb. Does it actually expand up to 32gb, not 16gb as it says?
I see the desktops don't have bluetooth. If you want desktops with bluetooth, how do you search for desktops with bluetooth? Also blu-ray player. Or is buying an external blu-ray player cheaper than if it came with the desktop? -
Can my HP laptop take 3.5 hard drives?

As an internal drive, no, it won't fit. -
( Fingers crossed, behind my back). -
When I opened up the computer it had one slot open and 1 4GB RAM on one slot. If I removed the 4GB and put in 16GB, would that be worth it? I was worried maybe the CPU might not be able to catch up with the RAM. I noticed that the CPU was half used up when 4GB RAM was almost 100 percent used up, so I guess that means the CPU will be 100% used up when the 8 GB RAM will be 100% used up and 100% used up when the 16 GB RAM is 50% used up?

I like running a lot of applications. Even with i7 16GB iMac I sometimes run into a bit of lagging, so I think I actually need something like 24GB.
Would my HP laptop in my sig take upto 8 or 16GB of RAM?
