This is just a simple pole... Would you be willing to buy the HP Envy 14 Sandy Bridge refresh if it came without an upgraded screen (maintained a resolution of 1366x768) and a max graphics option of the 6630m?

    Yes
    No
    Maybe

No, if I were in the market... I'd much rather buy a refurb 1st gen w/ Radiance. Otherwise, I'd just save myself some money and buy something cheaper with better hardware. There's nothing "premium" about the Envy 14 now.

If they don't upgrade the screen and get a 6770, theres no reason to buy the envy over a dv6t

I could forgive the graphics, but to me the screen is a dealbreaker. I'm fine with the 1366x768 in a 13" and smaller laptop but it is an insult for that to be the resolution of a laptop 14"+

I won't be in the market but no, I wouldn't buy the refresh without a hi-res screen option.

I agree with that, even most 15.6 laptops have a cheesy 1366x768. I am starting to like Clevo built laptops now xD

Yes. The screen downgrading kind of sucks admittedly, but the build quality, extra accessibility of technical support, decent battery life, and now an enhanced touchpad make this an interesting value proposition.

If I didnt have one, with the $799 coupon deal available now I would buy one.

Even w/o radiance, the envy 14 has a nice combination of GPU, CPU, looks, portability and battery life (with i5) thats hard to match.

Well, this is more or less what I expected... But I'm thinking with the new benefits available for the DV6, it would be useless for HP to release an envy 14 without a hi res screen and good graphics. Plus, the envy is supposed to be a more higher end model than the DV6. People would be more than willing to just pickup the DV6 if the Envy was a disappointment. HP would just be shooting themselves in the foot, and if they have any sense at all, they know this.

Yes I will most likely buy it if there is a beats edition(love that black and red)...only because I will most likely be getting $250-300 of my build.

Yes, I would consider it. Two weeks ago, I sent back an Envy Beats for the clickpad alone. I liked everything else but I could not tolerate to buggy clickpad. I'm sure I would also require a radiance screen if I had become accumstomed to it.

What issues is everyone having with the clickpad? When I ordered my last Envy 14 a few months ago, which I returned, it felt great, had no issues whatsoever. But then again, my old laptop is a 500$ HP piece of crap from 2008, which is lifetimes in laptop generations.

They've improved the touchpad software over the past year. Only issue I had is that it didn't allow for disabling the touchpad while typing to prevent palm swipes from making things difficult. Reil's touchpad software upgrade really helped things.

hey zeth, I read through that entire thread very thoroughly. I was using Reil's app with 2 finger tap as right click. I spent a huge amount of time trying to tweak the settings, but I still encountered two major issues:

    1) The mouse would still jump across the screen sometimes, sometimes an inch and sometimes across the entire screen
    2) Often the clickpad would ignore my finger taps. It would take me like 5 attempts to finally get it to click. I tried all sorts of settings, starting with the suggested defaults on that thread. Sometimes I would give up on the tap and resort to attempting to click the button, which would often result in me encountering the first issue with the mouse jumping.

The way I use the scrollpad, my palms never got in the way. However, I am very used to using buttons and was trying hard to get used to tap clicking. I enjoyed it when it worked correctly, and I REALLY miss chiral scrolling :( It still just pisses me off to no end that they couldn't allow the button areas to be dead-zones. I mean really, did nobody in a focus group tell them "the mouse moves when I try to click." The buttons are worthless on this clickpad...why even pretend they are there?

I returned the envy and am back to using my Dell XPS from 2005 :) It's a piece of crap. Hopefully it will hang in there until I can settle on a replacement. I wonder if our clickpad experiences were so different because maybe my clickpad was defective or maybe I just use it in a way that it doesn't handle well.

@OP, no, I wouldn't buy. But I expect 900p at least; I can't believe HP would be so stupid as to release the Envy with 720p as the only option. Apple made that mistake already when they kept 720p displays on their 13.3" MBP's while the 13.3" MBA's released before them had 900p screens.

And anything weaker than a 6750M would be a dealbreaker for me as well.

Ya, from what I am reading, my clickpad did nothing of the sort. I really can't think of one instant, where I disliked the clickpad, and I am used to using my friends macbook. It wasn't as great, smooth, or accurate as the MBP, but I didn't experience any issues with it. I actually enjoyed it, and had no idea about the issues til I read some threads on here. Just one thing was that when using the two-finger to scroll, it was a little unpredictable, but nothing too crazy.
