This poll is aimed at those who have a Pavilion-class notebook. I would be interested in knowing how your experience has been up to this point and if you would buy a Pavilion as your next notebook.
Please share the model Pavilion you have if you decide to leave a comment. Thanks.

Definitely. I have had mine for 4 months and have not had one problem.

I have been very lucky with my dv7, it's cool and quiet with enough graphics power for gaming. The subwoofer is a little weak but i use headphones when gaming or watching movies so it's not a problem.

I got the dv5t august of 08. And i will most likely not purchase a pavillion again. My dv5t has some serious problems. First the cooling system is terrible and overheats without a cooling pad. The power adapter broke 4 months after purchase. And worst was the screen failed 2 months after the warranty expired. Luckily my credit card company covered the nearly $400 bill to replace the screen. If i do decide to purchase a hp product again it will most likely be from their business line.

I owned a Pavilion zv5000z in '04-'05 and currently own a dv5 (purchased Jul '08).
I would buy another one. In my experience, HP makes the best consumer notebooks in terms of overall quality (chassis stiffness, keyboard layout/feel, styling (subjective)).
After getting an HP business class notebook though, I'm inclined to stick with them. -

HELL YES, I'D BUY ANOTHER HP AGAIN, MR DUGGAN!
now ask me a question that requires some thought...
I have not had a single issue with my dv7t that i got in august of 2008. It's been about a year and 4 months now and this thing is as awesome now as it was when I first got it. No heating issues, no issues at all. with laptop prices so low nowadays, i never thought i'd upgrade this monster but i went from having two 320gb drives and bought two 500gb drives to replace them.... this is all the machine i need now and for the next few years. that's why i paid a little more $ up front for the highest proc they had available.
my machine is a 99.9999% desktop replacement - i've taken the unit off of my desk maybe 5 times in the past 16 months. it certainly has not had the abuse that other laptops get when they're being taken to work/school/etc so mine is a desktop queen (like garage queen, get it? l0l)
anyway, hell yeah i'd get another HP. hell, if i can find a huge coupon, i'd order another unit now for absolutely no reason
I prefer only two brands for laptops: HP for their performance, tons of features at a price point that is ALMOST ALWAYS lower than it's competition. I prefer HP units for home use/media center use/watching movies/etc - anything media related.
For business notebooks, i prefer lenovo/ibm hands down over any other brand. i'm on my 5th or 6th ibm/lenovo now for work and i'm in love with each and every new model that comes out. -
I had a Pavillion for a couple hours 2 or so years ago and sold it to a friend. I was nice and is still plunking way no sure of the model, but it has a TL-58 1.9Ghz AMD turion Dual core, with a nvidia 7150M GPU.
if you count my Tx2, I'm also impressed, for the price a Payed 900$ for a multitouch tablet I can't complain, sure it runs hot. but what do you expect?
I have a Elitebook as well, I definately would recommend them over the pavillion line if you have the ability to get one. -
Yes, I would buy another Pavilion.
No, I will not buy one with AMD CPU and NVIDIA GPU.
My dv9014 went thru 3 repairs before I sold it. Now it's back on my table, motherboard busted.
I wouldn't buy Amilo with similar components either. It's not the brand, it's the components that matter. -
wellfor sure yes i have had an hp dv 2000 for about two and a half years and the only isuue i had was with the power adaptor rest is just grt till now
hp acc. to me makes best laps. in the world -
Do the HDX's count as Pavilions?
Then more than likely; yeah. Going on 5 months without any hardware issues, and even survived a complete dismantle to apply a new layer of thermal paste so It can last even longer.
Will I get anything smaller than 17 inches, is another question, and I'm leaning towards a "No" for that. -
i've had my pavillion for about 6 months now, and never had any hardware problems
i'd buy another one later for sure, but probably with a more powerful GPU -
I had my DV6700t for about two years now. I recently had to replace the HD when my computer would occationally freeze up after booting. Purchased a third party major manufacturer disk for half of what HP was asking. Otherwise had no issues with it. My biggest with HP is their continued lack of Windows 7 drivers. Seems they just don't give a sh*t about their past purchasers. I have upgraded and by some hours of internet searching and this great board, now have everything working more or less.
Would I purchase another? Well ONLY if it was the best deal I could find at the time.

Yes, I would buy another HP notebook ... BUT only after it has been out for a few months to work out any design bugs.
I have a dv5t which I purchased in Feb 09 and I was expecting major heat issues with the 9600m GPU. I was very surprised when I got it that I have no heat issues at all ... not even close to the 90c as was being reported by some people. -
I have seen a lot of complaints about the pavillion line but I've never had a problem with mine in a year and a half I've had mine. Overall I'd say its a pretty tough notebook. I've driven over 120k miles in all types of driving conditions and environments and my laptop is still running fine. Granted I don't usually have the laptop open and running when I'm in motion but still its had a lot of shock vibration and its still running great. The only thing I have had to replace is the dvd drive but that's my fault for overuse lol...burned over 500 lightscribe dvd's (both sides) so what do you expect? Laptop spec's in my sig.
Cheers

Probably no pavillion but some of their business stuff.
-
Bought a DM3 in October, haven't had a single problem since.
I'm sold. -
Yes, I'd buy another Pavillion. Had to replace my orginal one during the initial 21 day warranty period cause I got a lemon, but the replacement dv5t has been great for a little over a year now. The only frustration I have with it is that I intermittently lose sound volume, (and have just downloaded the most recent driver on HP's site but it hasn't solved the problem). And, though I've posted the sound/volume issue a couple of times in other threads, no one has been able to help me with that problem.

Yes sir. Own (2) HDX 9300 Dragons, (2) DV5Ts, and Tx2500 Tablet. None have given me any problems and they are each used everyday. I have Win 7 installed on each.

Hi,
I voted "yes" in your poll, but there really should be a "maybe", or "maybe, depending..." choice...
I have three Pavilions (all 17", all Core 2 Duo) in my family:
- Mine: DV9930US
- Daughter: DV7-1020US
- Son: DV7-2273US (I think)
My son's is recent, this past Christmas, so it's too soon to say how that is.
My daughter's DV7-1020US, and my DV9930US were purchased at the same time (I got mine as a gift).
I don't know about the <17" models, but I think it's hard to beat the 17" Pavilions:
Pros:
- They can support 2 hard drives
- The CPUs are upgradable (I upgraded my DV9930US from T5750 to T7250, to get VT)
- The newer ones support 8GB of RAM
- The trackpad has a button to disable it (this is a feature that I *really* like.
- I don't know if they all come with it, but some have a TV tuner ExpressCard with them plus remote.
- The newer ones have GigE adapters and 11n wireless (the DV9930US does not, but rather 10/100 and 11g).
Cons:
- I've seen some posts about overheating/getting hot. My daughter's DV7-1020US did get to the point that the fans were running all the time, but we blew it out with compressed air, and as far as I know, it's been ok after that. The GPU (Nvidia) on my DV9930US seems to run relatively "warm"... I've seen it go to ~70C when running video. I got a cooling pad, mostly as insurance, but am not sure how effective that has been. Some people would consider 70C not that hot, though... CPU temps rarely go above high 40C.
Overall, and assuming no heating problems, the 17" models are a good deal, relative to the features and upgradeability, I think.
So, if you had a "maybe" choice, I probably would have voted for that...

I will be buying another Pavilion....but not with Nvidia graphics.
6150 and 8400m both died on me.
I really hope Nvidia dies.
Their recent troubles, Fermi and what not has me giggling like a schoolgirl. -
Needmore4less Notebook aficionado
I would not.
The only HP I will consider is the HP Envy 15, and that's only because it uses a ATi GPU. -
Yes i will buy a Pavilion in the future. They aren't bad machines, they just need to be taken care of. -
Sure, have had mine 8 months, no issues so far.

After my experience with my laptop, which I had to fix at my own expense after only using it for 2 years, I will not buy another HP-made computer of any kind. The company has to stand behind its products, if it wants my business. Otherwise, what's the point of buying HP over other brands?
HP did a partial recall instead of the full one, which would have covered my laptop. And it got the money from nVidia. It just didn't want to bother.
P.S. If HP wants me to buy its computers, it has to compensate me for my repair expenses and offer a 3-year warranty at its own expense. -
It takes time to make something good, and realize that ATI hasn't really caught up or gotten ahead until now,and Nvidia will be #1 again in march or so. ATI may have their speedy cards, but they cant match the gfx quality that Nvidia's have. -
I have owned a DV9620US, a DV7-1240US and now I have a HDX Dragon. And I have my eye on a DV7-3060US. So yes, I will be buying a Pavilion again lol.

No , i would nver bye a hp pavilion ever again for a few reasons.
1. Hp support service is crap... service reps don't know anything.
2. They take too long to repair the laptop if it get's spoilt.
3. The laptop runs way too hot... i need a notebook cooler and have to undervolt CPU.
4. Bettter products available for same price.
5. Cheap stuff used in laptop.. my 9600M GT is DDR2 and not GDDR3 considering how much i paid for it... even an acer one had GDDR3... -
1. Most consumer support service is crap and reps never know anything more than you and me.
2. Thats odd, I've heard of cases that were quick as a full replacement, seems you got bad luck.
3. I definitively agree with you here. Pavilions are stylish, but I have found way too many defects on the cooling system that I would not go Pavilion until a major revision is done.
4. Really? Which ones? That sounds interesting
5. Yeah, I got screwed with DDR3 instead of GDDR3 on their premium laptop...grrrr and so will the new generation of Envy Owners...
So, would I buy a Pavilion, not just yet. Would I buy HP, yes. -
No, This Pavilion has had three mother boards replaced, two under their "Un-Advertised" extended warranty. The CD drive did not work after the third replacement. This was fixed by going through an installation process which a tech walked me through. Months later (now) the CD is again NOT working. Problem is I don't remember the steps in reinstalling.
Would you buy an HP Pavilion again?
