Nope. Imo HP is rubbish now especially if looking for a gaming computer. Just recently ordered a CLEVO. Wish I knew about these when I purchased my HP :S
-
The dv6 with the top-end GPU is still a decent gamer, however.
-
Yup^ It runs skyrim, d3, wow and every other game I have thrown at it so far at ultimate. I'm honestly blown away by how well this thing games. Nvidia ftw.
"Would I buy another hp?" Hell yes, I have bought like 10 in my life and will continue buying them. -
I own a Samsung and it's been a top quality machine, I've also owned a i7 hp and the quality of that wasn't the same as my netbook and the screen was just horrendous. I returned it (lucky the place I returned it was very loose with their return policy)
I simply won't buy hp because of their (continuing) track record in support and build quality although the dm1z seems to be a top machine.
My girlfriend owns a Acer and it's also been top notch (crappy keyboard however) -
I used to say "I will never buy HP" and then I just dumped 1k on a dv6t as my favorite college laptop. It's amazing what a unbiased mind and superb discounts can change a mindset. It'll be arriving on Monday and I'm pumped to say the least
-
So you made your decision by dumping a grand on a laptop and haven't even used it yet?
-
Well, considering how popular the current dv6 is here at NBR (and other places), I'm not too surprised that shorty is happy about his purchase. If he used the 33% discount to get a beefy system, all the more power to him.
-
This. You can't find a similar priced laptop that offers what the dv6t offers. Mine will come sometime Monday (today) so I'm def looking forward to the unboxing
-
Where's the 33% discount? Does HP stack discounts?
-
Coupon code for $400 off the dv6t: NBQ5952
-
HP won't stack the 33% discount with anything else unfortunately (but understandable. I saved nearly $500 on my purchase).
Coupon should be: NVM this one expired.
If that doesn't work, then searching for it should get a lot of results so try that. Hope this helps. -
HP,,,,NEVER AGAIN!!!!!
I'll shoot myself in the foot before I do another HP product again.
I'll put a plastic bag over my head and tie it REAL tight as a reminder not to purchase HP.
Actually, I'm thinking that stuffing my fingers in a meat grinder might just stop me from purchasing HP again.......
HP wants to make me do a bunch of this.........

#1) The Envy 17-3 090NR 3D has the 7690m XT video chip that is NOT supported by ATI. The chip is overclocked by a 3rd party, it has no up dates to bring it up to speed, it has to have the update 12.7 Beta (I think, new) from ATI to get the speed needed, and the firmware doesn't even show the correct chip. You loose 100MHz off the top end by doing this,,,"upgrade"?!?!?
#2) The Envy 17-3 290NR 3D refresh is shipped with a broken OS, the Intel HD 4000 Switchable Graphics and the WiDi (same chip) does not work.
#3) HP knows of this and they are shipping the Envy 17-32xxNR 3D units out, no fix is planed for the near future.
They HAD a good get go with the 30xx 3D series (other than the 7690m XT issue),,,,,but lost BIG TIME with the total OS F/U on the refresh 32xx 3D series.
FAIL,,,,,for their Top End Consumer Line......
1 Step forward,,,3 steps back................
Is HP a FAILING brand?
They're is slashing 27,000 jobs, PRODUCT SUPPORT?,,,,No Way,,,,R+D is where the money is going.........
Can anyone save HP? - The Buzz - Investment and Stock Market News
HP to cut 27,000 jobs - May. 23, 2012 -
Just bought myself a nice new 8760w with the 4000m quadro and dreamcolour screen. I did my research before buying to see if there was any problem and the machine's been out long enough etc.
So once again, yes, I'll buy HP.
P.s. Although the 8760w could have supported switchable graphics HP, unlike Lenovo, decided not to implement the facility. I accept this and it's not hidden. -
And your point is what?!?!?
-
I was not replying to you and if I were I would have included a quote.
-
Correct; Intel's HD 3000 cannout support 10-bit graphics, and Optimus depends on passing the graphic's signal through the iGPU (even if you want to use the dGPU). Note sure if the HD 4000 supports 10-bit, but I doubt it.
-
Nope not buying an HP again. (even passed on some pretty affordable Elitebooks).
Read my HP hell posts to find out why.
Luckily I've saved many people the hassle of owning HP. -
we use HP at work the quality is dropping a bit over the years no doubt.
still there consumer laptops don't look to bad id be tempted to take a punt if the price is right (silly cheap) -
I'd buy another HP in a heartbeat.
-
I'd buy another HP before many other OME's & at the moment I'm using a DV6-6135tx & it's better than good.
We had warranty repairs needed with 2 of the HP's in this household, within a week we had the parts delivered, a battery & a hard drive . If I need drivers I can go to their site and get them easily. In the past 6 months I had another brand new laptop I won't say which, but getting drivers or bios was almost impossible & many on that laptops forum site had a hard time get service.
I use it to surf, vid's, writing documents & playing game, eg ~ BF3, COD 3, counter strike and other games.
To the OP I see you got a laptop with the HD 7690M which is problematic, hopefully they will sort it out soon. -
Maybe!
DV8 has so beautiful design.
It has nVIDIA GT230M , i7 720QM but executes Cod-MW3 excellent (on full hd ultra settings)
But intel's new core architectures are so warm : Nehalem , sandy bridge , Ivy bridge.
and it make most of hp laptops warm
I think because hp has designed all the notebooks with small input/output air vents.
and you need a powerful coolpad. -
The issue with cooling has to do with HP's inadequate R/D department being about as blind as Apple to Thermals.
HP has had some of the worst conceived cooling systems I've seen (albeit the worst would have to go to the Toshiba Portege R700~ by far). -
Well... just purchased a Folio 13 for work so yes I'd, yet again, buy another HP machine.
-
just bought another K8600. used ofc since the price new is around $450. I got it for $95. Then I bought an HP care pack with 3 year warranty.
Would you buy another HP?
