I have not even recieved my laptop yet, but I am thoroughly impressed so far with their government and higher education service. I've been having issues with my order status, I ordered the laptop last week, and I am still unable to see any order updates or status. My login keeps telling me my information is not found in their database.

So last week I called HP to ask about this. In only 2 menus, I was talking to a nice, American woman who found my account and told me the status of my notebook. Time: 2 minutes.

This week, there is still no status, which is frustrating because I have no idea when it will ship or arrive. So I called today. Again, 2 menus and I was talking to a nice American woman. She found my account and determined something was fishy since it was in production but wasn't showing any progress. So she said she'd transfer me to someone who could tell me what was up. I was afraid of being transfered (the ultimate terror of tech support), but before she had even hung up the guy was already talking with me. He was incredibly nice, and said he'd call the warehouse personally and email me updates as it went. So sure enough, an hour later I got the first email telling me the status and an EDD.

I sure hope this level of service continues once I own the laptop, its been great so far. I'm wondering if this is because I'm going through the Government/higher education service? Because I've heard some horror stories here, but I don't seem to be experiencing any of that. Both times, I was literally one the phone for under 2 minutes.

It's different when building a notebook to getting one repaired under their warranty. But yeah, there have been success stories with repairs also, so hopefully you get good service, just as everyone else should. Did you get a business laptop? Or one of their consumer dv series?

I got a Compaq 8510p, so I guess it's a business laptop, but I purchased it through the academic purchase program instead of small business. Yeah, I've heard some horror stories, so I hope the service keeps on being good. We'll see I guess. I own a Compaq X1000 right now that's over 5 years old and its done well. But I had a horrible time with Compaq service getting it repaired once, but that was under the old Compaq, not quite associated with HP yet.
