In the HP site, there are two GPU options for the V2000z: 200M And 200M with productivity port.

So my question is: Are they the same GPU or not? The difference is only the productivity port? ANy perfomance difference between these two GPU?

    Thanks

The only difference is one comes with a card reader, firewire, and extra usb. Same GPU.

Yes - the V2000Z's X200M has 32MB of VRAM already on board on both models. As nathan has said, the only difference is that one has productivity ports and one does not. This card can borrow up to an addition 96MB of memory from the system, making for a 128MB GPU.

FYI, my standard x200m came factory with 128 mb vram. Of course this can be changed in bios to be 32, 64, or 128 mb.

How can I tell how much ram my X200M has? I have the version with productivity ports, but not the 128MB version.

right click on my computer, properties - check what amount of RAM it shows. I have 512mb and the video adaptor is restricted to 64 of it so in My Computer properties it shows 448mb RAM.
I don't know where the 32 mb dedicated memory are because it deducts exactly 64mb of the operating memory!?

In bios you can set video 32,64 or 128MB. Based on need and available memory it may take double of what you assign in Bios because of HyperMemory feature.

Mine assigned to 64MB in bios and typically it take 64, but when I play any game it take 128MB.

vassil 32MB dedicated means in the case of v2000z, that is allocated by bios(not by os) , driver and os independent. so, even if you load linux your videocard uses 32MB(whatever you allocate in bios)

hm, tnx Chinna. So the memory is not really dedicated because it is still a part of the physical RAM.
    Merry Christmas to all!

I was pointing out that the V2000Z's X200M only comes with 32MB of dedicated VRAM. All the rest must be borrowed from the system.

Wait - the X200M only comes (in the V2000Z) with shared RAM.

The Compaq V2000Z has the X200M in its 32MB form (lowest possible setting). So far, I've discovered three forms - the 16MB: rarely ever seen, the 32MB: found in small, light notebooks like the V2000Z, and the dedicated 128MB: found in the zv6000 and the R4000. The X200M is a chipset as well, further complicating things with all this "stuff". I think that its dedicated, but I'm not too sure - I've always assumed it has to be, otherwise, how could it be better than the Intel GMA 900? The X200M only has 2 pipelines, whereas the GMA 900 has 4 pipelines, so it has to have some sort of advantage (clockspeed maybe?).

EDIT: Just checked out Pulp's GPU Guide: According to his guide, it says that the X200M comes in three dedicated "buffer" sizes, the 16MB, the 32MB and the 128MB form.

I'm not sure about the x200. Ok, mine must have at least 32mb allocated but this does not mean they are dedicated because the video card still gets them from the total amount of RAM available.
Zv6000 on the other hand, has the 128mb dedicated version of the card, which means that I may allocate 0mb in the Bios and it will still have 128mb; that is, it is dedicated but in addition to that x200 can borrow up to 128 more MB.
As for the pipelines, I have no clue but I think they are radically different (GMA900 and x200)

Atleast in V2000z all the memory is borrowed from main memory. But it will let you allocate 32,64 or 128MB in the bios. But the driver can grab double of what is allocated in bios based on requirement( Called HyperMemory).

I am not sure howmany pipelines it has, but it's 3DMark05 scores are double than Intel GMA900. If you see my V2000z review you will realize it has 3DMark Score of 634 with DDR400 RAM. I remember all the Intel GMA 900 based notebook only gave scores below 300.

200M with dedicated memory is not doing that great too. If I remember correctly, it is giving 3DMark05 scores around 720. Now, there are notebooks and even desktop boards with ATI 200M for intel Processors.

As much as I hate ATI for their lame, unusable software, this ATI200M is not bad at all.

Use ATI Tool to find out how much ram is on the 200M. Just click the settings tab, mine shows 31MB. GPU 300Mhz, Mem 200Mhz SDR, 2 Pipes & Mem bus 64bit.

My x200m comes with 64 Dedicated I think. Looking at my ram it seems that It only takes off 62mb.. Hmmm I wonder whats taking off the other 2mb.
