I have been searching for a new laptop for quite a while now and i noticed that the x6000 is about 200-300 dollars cheaper than the zd8000. This only happens when you select the highest features and parts for the system. I am just wondering if anyone could check this out for me and see if i'm missing something, or if there is a known reason why there is a price difference. thanks a bunch!

The X6000 is a couple of hundred dollars cheaper and I think it is because of marketing or something like that. And I also think the X6000 is of better quality than the ZD8000.

I noticed the same thing while I was researching which laptop to purchase. I ultimately went with the x6000 since it had the best price/performance. The only difference between the 2 models is the styling, the HP has an optional remote control and HP markets their brand, which results in higher costs of laptops sold under their brand name.

    Ordered: Compaq x6000, 3.0ghz, SXGA+, 512mb, Ati x600 256, 60gig 7200, WiFi+Bluetooth

Now I may not be an expert. But it appears that you cannot get the X6000 with Windows Media Center operating system. This would indicate some internal differances. (Such as the possibility of not having the IR sensor. Also,....Compaq used to use an propriatary operating system. (This might be why the price differance.)

You are correct on the IR blaster, the X6000 has none, the IR blaster is mainly for the remote in the the ZD8000 No XP MCE for the X6000, but the operating system is not propriatary. The speakers are a different brand...X6000 uses JBL Pro the ZD8000 uses Harmon Kardon speakers, The ZD8000 with XP MCE uses an Adaptec USB dual TV tuner which is about $140.00. Also included is a tiny remote for the ZD8000.

You have the same config I'm ordering (assuming you got the 256mb Vid Ram). Any issues or problems with anything? How's the brightness for watching DVD's? Thanks for your time.

I think that's the best part about the system....watching DVD's on the road. I think in this price range...you'll be impressed by the JBL pro speakers...For a laptop, they put out a little sound! I guess if you wanted to see what a movie looks like...head out to one of the retail stores and pop one in a ZD8000, same screen, graphics, different speakers though. So far not one problem, I even put XP pro on the system. I'm very happy with it. I moved up from a HP ze4315us to this system...night and day!

Also the X6000 deos not have the tv tuner? This option adds about 199.00w/windows Media edition.

rahulnirmal What is the difference in quality? Did not get to see the X6000 in person so i am curious.

I saw the X6000 at Fry's Electronics and the quality looked the exact same to the ZD8000 to me.
