I am thinking about doing this, but you have to drop the 32 bit version, you think the driver support will be there for the laptops?

    Any thoughts on this?

It's exactly like running Windows XP on a Pentium II laptop. Because it was built for Windows 98/ME, you'd lose functionality to certain shortcut buttons. Other than that though, everything should be fine. If the manufacturer chooses to not support the 64-bit version of WinXP, there's sooner or later be third party (or modified) drivers that'll allow you to run the new version of the OS. The only matter here is how long you'd have to wait.
